As a former assistant sous chef I can attest to the fact that restaurants are bad places for a meal. Most restaurant employees don't care about food safety and half don't wash their hands when they go to the rest room. If I like you I'll cook you a meal. If you want to eat out I'll pack it as a picnic. I near some world class beaches so I would probably choose a beach for a picnic though my garden is a nice place for outdoor dining. Plus my table is set to make you feel like a queen which you won't find in any restaurant.

For a first date with someone I haven't met before, coffee is fine. If it's going well we can move on to lunch. If it's someone I've met in person, then a nice restaurant is fine. In Seattle a three course meal for two at a nice restaurant with wine, tax, and tip will run $150-$200.
What is the motivation? I like good food. I don't eat in chain restaurants.
What Guys Said
Since I am of the drinks-and-appetizers school of thought for first dates, I am embarrassed to admit that my last first date was at a restaurant where our bill with wine and tip was about $130. She even offered to pay her share, but even though I wasn't interested in seeing her again I insisted on paying. Even though from our conversation it was evident from our conversation that she made as much as me, if not more. I guess maybe a misguided sense of chivalry...
When I was single there were several years where I made really good money. I would routinely take dates to this great bistro that was my favorite. It was mostly that I loved eating there tbh. If I was going to get laid it wouldn't be because of that.
Just to look cool and bcs it's first impression. First impression is very important and will decide whether the next date will happen again or no.
So men tried to do his best for first impression.I have never done this. I think that any girl who is not happy just hanging out with me and going to a sports bar or eating in I would be wasting my time taking her to an expensive restaurant.
Nothing. I'm not going to spend a bunch of money on someone I dont know. Let's do something cheap and convenient so we don't waste each other's time if it doesn't work out.
Nothing really.
I best chance would be if we had already been friends for a while and things were taking off. But then neither of us would be interested in the nonsense of expensive restaurants, anyway. So probs not going to happen.I'd do it because I want to eat at the restaurant and a table for 1 just sounds terrible
I do it because it is what a true gentleman does for a lady.
If I'm sure to get sex
