He says he wants to take a step back?

I have been talking and seeing this guy for 3 months now and in that time we have spent a lot of time together. We have gone on many dates and just created many memories together. Recently he told me that he has noticed that he can be very selfish toward me (which I had also noticed) and therefore says that he just wants to take a step back and work on himself such as his selfish traits. He also says this is something he feels he just needs to do on his own as I deserve better than what he has been doing. He just doesn’t want to jump into a relationship with me when he knows that he can be a better version of himself. So should I just give him his space and wait for him to sort himself out.

Forward is the only way to go & if you really like him a step back is a kick in the ass & hopefully he can man up & figure out what he really wants. Time will tell if you allow it to.

It was hard to hear that he wanted to take a step back but I was glad that he was man enough to see his faults but to also realise that I didn’t deserve that treatment. By him being selfish as well it was nothing too drastic and he was never horrible to me or anything. Plus I wouldn’t want to rush into a relationship anyway

But if I see him as my person and him working in himself and bettering himself in order so we can have a better relationship in future is that not something worth waiting for longer than that
