Should I learn a few phrases in her native language before the first date?

I'm going on a first date with a girl next week on Saturday. She speaks English extremely well but it is not her first language. Her first language is French.

Do you think it would be too cheesy to learn a few phrases/lines in French before we meet? If it's a good idea, are there any suggestions?

We have been talking to each other for a few months but couldn't meet due to the border closure. She knows that I currently have know understanding of French, so I thought it might be a nice little surprise 🙂

Does she prefer to speak in French? If she does I think that would be helpful, but if she prefers English , I think that will be too cheesy and make you look too invested way too early.

She has never mentioned a preference between the two. She has told me in the past that if I want to learn French to let her know and she'll help.

If we had only been talking for a few weeks I never would have considered this. I just wasn't sure since we've been talking for 2.5 months.

You’re welcome! I think you should go with the flow. If you sense that she prefers one thing or another then take time to learn, but I wouldn’t present it on the first date. I am waiting a Sicilian Man and I find it odd that people literally obsess over the fact that he’s Italian. I had a cop help him and me when I got into a car accident and the cop was obsessed with the fact that my boyfriend is Italian lol. My boyfriend has been teaching me about his culture as our relationship has progressed , but he would never expect me to learn Italian straight up because he is English speaking. Just present the idea later on lol don’t connect her to her culture too quickly
