Yes. I originally met my boyfriend online actually, neither of us were looking for a relationship, we meet in a group chat on discord and talked nonstop for 3 and half years with phone call, and videochats mixed in there and last March we finally met in person, he moved 15 minutes away from me and we've officially been in a very serious relationship since, and have recently even started talking about moving in together when his lease ends next March.

So yeah I think it's possible, but the odd of it working out are terrible in all honesty. And it's risky starting a relationship online like that, its a lot harder to get to know some like that. Not to mention long distance is a bitch, and painful. I definitely never intended to do it. And if for any reason things didn't work out with my boyfriend and I, I'd never start another relationship online. So there's my two cents on the topic.

Anything is possible, but I think It can only happen if you've chatted for a long time and met them at some point.

I don't think so. I think that you can like certain things about them, but I don't believe you can love someone you've never met. Online gives people a filter - they can control what you see and what you know. Spending time with someone in person gives you insight that online never could. You get to see how they react to the world around them, how they treat the waiter, what they do when they get frustrated or embarrassed or excited. These are all things you don't get to see online.

In this day and age I would say, no. The person is guaranteed to be different enough in person to throw you for a loop. I really miss the internet of the 90’s. That was fun stuff.

Yeah really. It was MUCH funner in the 90's. The internet was new and everyone was excited to be able to meet online, and then meet in person if they lived near you. No one expected a "perfect match" like on the dating apps of today.

@ArrowheadSW Agreed. Even the chat rooms had a different tone to them. Maybe it was just people being more realistic.

Right! The chatrooms were cool. If someone was in your area and you met in a chatroom, it was good enough reason to meet up! No major expectations. Back 20 years ago, I met up with about 30 women over the course of about 5 years. It was cool meeting new people that way.

@dustybiker And I remember almost everyone online back then thought they had met "the one" online, but people tended to learn quickly that you didn't know "the whole person" just from chatting online or on the phone. But those chat rooms were fun. There are a few people who I am still in touch with 20 years later, from meeting in those chat rooms.

@ArrowheadSW That is incredible! Good for you. I held on until about five years ago. Then lost touch with the last myself, when the very last forum of old dried up and closed. Thing is most people of that time didn’t go along to join Facebook or Twitter as they didn’t like the change, in turn making them harder to find now.
