Or vice versa?
Yeah, I think it would be fine
Probably not, that might eventually complicate things
It depends/Another opinion

It would wind up causing trouble. When people say that they are patriotic it comes most often from two separate places.
1: they love this country and believe if you don't support it the way it is that you should leave and stop complaining.
2: you believe dissent and expressing your criticism of how we can make the country better than it already is determines patriotism.
So ultimately do you pledge allegiance to a symbol? Or do you pledge allegiance to the people of that nation? Because to me, I don't care about the government or the businesses or the flag or any of that. But I do care about the citizens. I do care about their conditions and their prosperity. If I see a large swath of the population unnecessarily struggling then I am going to speak up and I'm not going to allow some coward who refuses to stand their ground and fight for a better life to convince me that my criticisms are invalid.
It depends on what “patriotic” means to that person.
Unfortunately, today’s definition seems to be “I’m a ignorant, uneducated, conspiracy theorist, Trump cocksucker with unsophisticated views of America, politics and social issues, and who thinks America is perfect and our history is all rainbows and butterflies”.
Given that that’s the current definition in the US, I’d say fuck no.
If the definition went back to “I care about my neighbors and community” maybe I’d be more willing.
Aww, looks like I triggered at least two inbred, Trump cocksuckers.
@npiatanas Yes, conservatives are huge bigots. We are aware of this. Imagine being part of a party that thinks being bigots makes you patriotic.
I'm an American and also half Filipino. However, only my accent is American. My physical appearance is very Filipina. Within the time I lived 19+ years in the Philippines, unsuspecting visitors from either China and/or several Arab countries would bad-mouth my beloved USA so much with made up lies that I reached that point in which I calmly debated their opinions, rationally fought back against their opinions, immaturely threw a drink on them, immaturely gave them middle fingers, immaturely cussed at them and/or politely turned my back on them.
I find it difficult to agree with someone who blindly and wholly supports their country, especially if they feel "proud" of their nation's history. I think this applies to any country.
I guess I'm going on trial. Rather go through that than possess inapplicable pride.

No, I wouldn't date a patriotic person.
Patriotic? Like what? Pretending our country is perfect when clearly it's not? That's not patriotic, that's just jingoism. Or truly patriotic, working to make things better? Because if you look at the people we honor today, they are honored for taking a risk, going against the status quo to make improvement -- the women who fought to get the vote, Rosa Parks, the freedom riders, Daniel Ellsberg, the Vietnam war protesters, the protesters at the Stonewall riots, Woodward and Bernstein. Eventually I expect it will be Chelsea Manning and Edward Snowden.
I would date a soldier.
I would not date someone who's aggessively trying to shove everything that makes someone a "true American" down my throat.
Honest... answer.
~Patriotism isn't judged on how many people hear your views about you country, but by what you do for it yourself even in the smallest act of kindness.~
As long as she could agree to disagree on some things and was ok with each of us having our own things. Really just like any relationship you’re not going to see everything the exact same way and I’m going to have interests that they’re not into and vise versa I mean I’m not what most would consider patriotic but I feel like I am to the point to where I’d definitely fight for my country so someone being really patriotic wouldn’t be a deal breaker
It depends on if they are actually patriotic or if they surface-level patriotic. Do they sacrifice for their country or do they just like waving the flag? Do they contribute to improving the nation or are they only interested in personal benefits of being a citizen, while wanting to deny those benefits to their countrymen? I'd date a real patriot, but there's a lot of fake patriots out here these days.
This is for everyone who thinks patriotic is a bad word or meaning extreme right wingers...
Definition- Having or expressing devotion to and vigorous support for one's country. This isn't a bad word. We're not perfect but we can still be patriotic for the things we do right and still strive to better.
Democrats and Republicans or anyone for that matter can be patriotic without it meaning crazy conspiracy theorists driven to riot the capitol.
You'd have to reverse the example for me. I'm the patriotic one.
I dont have any problem dating a patriotic girl
even foreigner patriotic girl
*slaps forehead* yes, you did. I wouldn't have a problem as long as he can accept who I am and not try to change me.
I would but being patriotic is weird, I mean why would you take pride in the fact your parents had the horn 9 months before you were born so you were born in a particular place... I mean it's just a weird thing to be proud of! lol
Not here in America.
The really patriotic Americans usually have no clue what America was built on, and instead of following American values they beliefs are the opposite
We're not allowed to be patriotic in the UK anymore, the "woke" people had a meeting and it was decided 😂😂😂
As long as they weren't hateful, vitriolic, or extremely negative, then I guess it'd be fine. It's okay to give proper criticism towards a country and not turn into an asshole about it.
Well, I’m not too patriotic, but I could date someone who was very patriotic or not patriotic at all.
It really depends on the person, their views, how they get along with me, etc.
Depends. Dont try to force your views on me, and we're good
As long they aren't an asshole about it, because some are, as well as racist and think they're better than others.
Depends whether they're the smart kind of patriots or the stupid kind. By that I mean depends on whether they accept criticism to the country or will go crazy if someone says they don't like something about said country.
@npiatanas usually it's something along the lines of traffic, over construction, lack of trees and similar things.
I am patriotic and I couldn't be with someone that isn't patriotic at all. I'd assume they are an America hating liberal.
The rule of thumb is no politics at the dinner table. that used to keep families together. now everyone has no filter... really annoying
I suppose I'd have to simply explain why I'm a real Patriot and she's fallen for the two party false dichotomy. How she reacts to that would determine the rest.
ah that's not gonna be an issue in germany. here, nobody is patriotic. cause if you dare to act patriotic, people will call you a nazi and shun you.
Vhat about ze Wörld Cup, Fritz?
@DryGermanGuy tell me more about how many German players are in the German National Team xD
These foreigners stealing jobs from Germans, again? Oh noes!!! I don't care who is on the German National team, I only care that they win! Let the goons from the NPD throw a fit about the players' heritage.
@DryGermanGuy i'm not complainaing about "foreigners stealing jobs". i'm just saying that it's stupid to be proud of "something german" that is actually not at all german xD. like you wouldn't have "national pride" for germans driving toyotas right? that doesn't mean toyotas are bad or that you shouldn't drive a toyota. just that it's not a german thing. that's all i'm saying.
@DryGermanGuy like if you wanna cheer for your favourite club, then i don't care if there's no germans on that team. but if you wanna cheer for something german, then don't cheer for the national soccer team, cause that just isn't german XD
