Pros: he is significanly less likely to be a sociopath. He is slightly more likely to have routines and responsibilities down to a science. He is less likely to object to having children with you, should that be your perogative.
Cons: all the stepmother/stepchild stereotypes did not come out of nowhere. You can try to be a mom but it isn't going to work out that way unless you are very lucky (or they are young). You can try to be a friend but that also isn't going to work. Something in between is the best thing to aim for, but almost certianly their real mother will still be in the picture. You can be rest assured there is no risk of cheating but they might drag their drama out in front of you from time to time. If you're the type to throw a popcorn in the microwave and enjoy the show, fine, but otherwise you may want him to assure some boundaries with her.
All you can know about a man with a child is that they have a child. Every man is different, trust your gut and look at his outcomes. Life is not so easy and things are never clean cut. Personally, not every divorce happens because the man was the problem. Take your time and look at the little things. As for a man not being able to spend time with you because he has kids is silly. Cons-You will never come first, meetings with the baby momma, spending money on the daughter, not-so-careful sex
