Boyfriend is about to leave on a trip to Hawaii and has been acting distant in his communication. Should I be concerned?

He is about to go on a 10 day trip to Hawaii by himself. He didn't invite me to the trip, but he DID invite me to the one after where I will meet his parents. After his Hawaii trip, we're going to visit his friends and family in his hometown, a trip he invited me to. My concern is that he is going to be giving me the same texting pattern while on his Hawaii trip. He calls me after he gets off work and then goes silent for 3 or 4 hours. He ignores my texts for those hours. At 10 pm he texts and says he took a 3 hour nap or that he just woke up. He did this again last night and texted good night. I voiced my concern about him going hours without texting (I was referring to him not responding for no reason). He said "Well, if I crash out, I crash out." Should I be concerned?
