I cancelled last minute, is it right for him to be this upset?

I've been seeing this guy for a couple weeks, I don't feel like dating him just yet maybe because I don't feel like I like him enough or, to be honest, at all.
Anyways, we had plans to go out on a date today the entire day.
This week I adopted a new 3 week old kitten and she is very very very sick, she started to get worse yesterday afternoon (I am a vet dw) and I am deeply in love with her, she has become my baby, so I told him yesterday that I didn't feel comfortable going anywhere cuz I don't feel like leaving my very very sick kitten alone at home and he said that is fine that if I'm going out and be the entire time worried about my kitten he'd rather not have me going but I told him I'd tell him tomorrow (well, today) that if I'd go or not.
Today my kitten wasn't feeling any better so was out all day getting medicine for her and around 4h before the date I told him that I didn't feel comfortable going and if we could postpone, he said okay but he has been making me feel like shit the entire day now, saying that he is hurt and upset that I cancelled, he's been snarky and answering very short and just being kinda dry.
I'm not dating him or anything but he has told me he has feelings for me...

Does he have the right to be upset at me?

He has the right to be upset... because he obviously really wanted to see you on the date, and now he has to kill the entire day by himself. But you did nothing wrong. He's blaming you because it's easier than blaming himself. Do not blame yourself for how he is acting.

If you're still interested in seeing him, give him another chance. But his actions this time could be an indication of a more serious problem, so be careful.

Maybe he thinks you are trying to blow him off. He is kind of a jerk but I can understand a little why he is pissed. Maybe explain that you are not blowing him off and want to postpone it.

I told him, I told him I understand why he is upset and that was fine but I just wasn't in the right state of mind to go anywhere. But he still is upset and he says he is sad. Now I feel super bad cuz I didn't go and what if in the future I can't go again? Will I have to deal with this again? It's the first I cancel anything with him

I enjoy being with him but I just don't feel attracted the way he feels with being with me. The thing is he is a sweetheart (well he was) and he was very respectful so I'm trying to learn to like him but I struggle. I guess I was trying to date a guy that was right for me instead of trying to pursue someone that I wanted.
