Apparently I hurt his male ego and he made drama in the office, should I apologize or just ignore it?

I moved to another country two months ago and one of the first people I met here is a french guy, he works at the same company but it has more than 8000 employees and in a totally different team and in theory the company guidelines say it is fine to date then.
We were constantly texting and it came from both sides, we spent some time together with other new joiners, he made sexual references all the time, complimenting my butt or joking that he will marry me or propose and when we were together with others he usually took me aside just to chat with me alone but he never asked me out or anything.
At some point he made once again some sexual references and i kinda got annoyed by being led on and wrote "Haha oh so you're just trying your luck with everyone because you probably haven't gotten laid since coming to this country, oookay 😂😏" and he apparently got super offended, a few days later he messaged me and said let's talk at breakfast in the office, so he there, was super pissed and went like "why did you write that, I showed it to my flatmate (who also works at our company) and she was also like wtf and oh believe me if i'd like you, you'd know for sure and you are right that you are not a nice person..." And then left again super pissed, he unfollowed me on insta, should I apologize or just leave it be? I hate the drama and don't expect anything from him anymore, I am actually afraid that he will respond in a shit way to my apology anyway

I would apologize. Maybe it wasn’t your intention, but what you said was very sarcastic and rude for no reason. If you felt led on, the mature thing to do would have been address the situation in a one on one conversation. If you didn’t feel comfortable or ready to have that talk, then it would’ve been better not engaging in his flirting going forward. Even on that note, flirting and carrying on how you two were doesn’t always mean the person is interested in anything outside of that, like dating and whatnot. He may have just been having some fun because you were entertaining these interactions as well. All of this could’ve been clarified in a conversation, simply put. What you did was not ok.

I want to try to understand it. Which part would make you pissed? Two weeks ago my parents came to my place and then my sister and her boyfriend and they slept at my bed and he wrote so they'll have fun before you in this bed, it implies something similar
