Is it a good idea to tell him the truth about my age before getting into serious relationship?

okay before getting into it, I recently just turned 20 and the man I've been seeing is 26. When we first hung out, I told him that I was 21 with my birthday right around the corner, leading him to believe that I am currently 22 which is not true. The reason I adjusted my age was really because I didn't see this "relationship" going anywhere and in the past, when I have told older men my age they tend to treat me very differently ( not in a positive way.) I thought being the legal drinking age would be more acceptable in a way and I was also afraid he wouldn't like the age gap of 20 vs. 26. Going into this, I expected that we would hang out a few times until someone eventually got disinterested, however, he asked me to be his girlfriend just two days ago and I've found myself in this predicament. I want to tell him the truth because I don't want to go into a serious relationship keeping this from him, I am just not sure how to tell him. Right now he thinks we have a 4 year age gap when truly it is a 6 year age gap. I know it is only two years added, but I still can't help but feel like it's going to be a lot to him. He is very kind and understanding so I'm thinking he might take this okay, but I'm really mf anxious about it and feel extremely shitty. Any suggestions on how to tell him because I really like him and I don't want to ruin it.
