Is it wrong to not get a Parents “blessing” for marriage?

My boyfriend is older …. We’ve discussed marriage early before because it’s something I personally want in life as well as children so if he wasn’t interested I needed to know and he’s fine with it as well. My mom and I don’t have the best relationship we never had I feel like she tries to compete and just tear me down emotionally/verbally it’s gotten better since I moved out but still not the healthiest. We had a discussion about marriage and he asked me would I be looking for my mom to know or be involved and I said I don't know then I felt bad since I guess that’s what normal
People do but I feel like she wouldn’t be

That practice is a leftover down the time when a woman of any age needed her father's permission to marry. If your relationship with your mother is filled with drama then don't involve her. If you are going to have a wedding then you can invite her or not.
