If I choose to get over somebody, it will take less than half a year and if I do not choose to get over somebody it could take decades.

There was a lady who I dated for over a year in my mid-twenties, and after we split up it took me a good 6 months to get over it. Mostly because I really didn't get any closure with how the relationship "went south" suddenly.
