How do you feel about girls that play pool? And can pool players make it work with people who don’t play at all?

Hi. I’m a girl and I like to play pool. Im not the best at it but I like to go to the bar and compete in pool tournaments, maybe even gamble here and there. I do ok for myself but it’s gotten to the point where I don’t think I’m compatible with anyone who doesn’t play pool. It’s just that big a part of my life now and I want someone to share my passion with. But I’m afraid what a guy will think when I take him to the pool hall and I show my competitive side.

The fact that you gamble "a little" worries me. It seems to me that you are just addicted to whatever this pool thing is. Try to take some weeks off and think and try other things and see how that makes you feel.

Why? Men bet on things like fantasy football and go to the casino all the time. My odds of winning are much higher playing pool and I can actually make a career out of it if I get good enough. It actually takes a lot to get good at unlike the usual things people gamble on. It’s possibly the only sport that women can be just as good as the men.

First of all, stop talking about other people and what they do (just like our parents were telling us). Other people also do drugs, hookups, kill themselves and other crazy stuff. Do you want to do these things as well? I don't care about others but for you. Now in regards to your example, it's bad cause I don't think that going to casino and gamble in any way is healthy and most people think the same way. So your example is out of the picture. Making a career is a different thing but I don't know how that works so we can talk about it if you want to share and talk. But, is making a career and making lots of money enough for you? Or you prefer a simple job and keep pool as a hobby?

The thing is that from my POV, you are so much into this thing that you can't think outside. I don't think that it's normal to not be interested in a guy that's outside of that. If you like pool and want to play as a hobby here and there with NO MONEY involved, then it's fine. But I think you must first take a break and think about some stuff. It's not bad that you have a hobby and that you like it so much. But the fact that you are so into it that you feel like you are not compatible with a guy that doesn't play shows me that you are thinking about it 24/7 so you probably need a break and to re-think about what you want in life. Unless I don't see and understand something of course. You're welcome to make things more clear for me.

Nah. I’m gonna always be a pool player and that won’t change. I have a lot of other hobbies and activities I do, it’s just my favorite. There’s a lot more activities that are way more risky. I play in league for it and it’s no different then if someone was into bowling league. I’ve won trips to Vegas behind it and more. That’s the tournament side of it. I’ve also met some of the baddest pro pool players on the planet. So I want someone who will be happy for my success and who would want to share those experiences with me.

I’m not interested to change for a guy who doesn’t “approve”. To me it sounds misogynistic especially if you don’t even know anything about it. Statistically speaking I’m probably bound to met someone through playing pool. Most people who play are men after all. I didn’t ask if I should changed. I asked if a pool players life style can be compatible with someone who doesn’t basically.

I never said that you should "change". That's not my point. Your life style could be compatible with someone who doesn't play. But nobody can say for sure as we don't know exactly how is your whole day and it's also up to the individual.

I’ve yet to learn how to play snooker. I know some of the rules. But no one plays it here. there aren’t a lot of 9 foot tables here to play it on and definitely no snooker tables unfortunately. It seems to me snooker is bigger in eastern Europe and the Middle East more than anywhere. A lot of people where I’m from don't even know who Ronnie Sullivan is. That’s how little it’s played.

Yes pool is played a lot more than snooker. Even pool is much harder on a full size table.

I like billards most of all or did when I was playing regularly as imparting spin is more important. eg you need to get the ball the full length of the table but to hit the target ball softly. Problem is if you hit your ball softly it will drift with the nap of the clothe. So you have to hit harder than you would like but put a lot of back spin to slow it down towards the end.
But pool on half sized tables is all you can play now unless you go to special places with full sized tables. So I just settle for the occasional game of pool on a half sized table.

Wow you must be from a different place. Here Billiards and pool are the same thing. It’s more of a general term for all of the different games involved. Here 8 and 9 ball are the most popular. And then probably one pocket and then golf. Sometimes I might see bank pool, Honolulu, and straight pool being played but it’s rare. I’ve never heard of Kelly pool. No one talks about it.

Yeah I'm from Australia and there is an English influence. In billards proper there is a red ball and two white balls - one is yours and one is mine. I can pot the red ball or yu white or go in off into a pocket using the red ball or your white ball. If i hit the red ball and the white ball it is a canon. First to 100 points wins. A famous Australian did canons 2 and a half times round the table and was so good at it they changed the rules to stop him. You get the balls against the cushion and hit them so they bounce back into the same position to do again and again.

Kelly pool is fun. Everybody puts in say$10 to play and gets a ball. If you pot your ball you win and take all the money. If another player pots your ball you are out.

Conversely I haven't heard of the versions you've mentioned. 9 ball is 8 highs and 8 lows plus the black? What is 8 ball? Never heard of bank pool, Honlulu or straight pool, one pocket by those names Would you mind describing?

I've got quite tired of the pub pool version we play here, so would like to know some others. :) Looking forward to persuading people to try them out.

I love pool and women who play! I started in HS, then after work. I was in a couple of leagues over the years. 8 ball and 9 ball. Not many women, but there were a few. I think it’s great that you play!

Oh cool. Yeah it’s pretty fun. I’d play in more leagues but all there is here is apa. at least with bca you can go to Vegas singles if you want to.

Pool or Billiards is a bunch of games like 8 and 9 ball that you play on something known as a pool table. A pool table is that thing with the green felted top with balls on it that you see in a bar or a night club. People (usually between 2 and 4 people) take turns and use sticks called cues to knock the balls in to the pockets or holes. The rules depend on what game your playing and the bar you play in.
