Mom told me to date within my race?

I met a black guy online, and it was such a coincidence of meeting. He's very into me and wants to pursue this and see where it goes. Was telling my mom about him, and she said he seems like a guy I should give a chance.

I'm 25 years old and really haven't had a guy into me this much. He wants to see me all the time and hang out.

I told my mom last night he is black, and WHOA acting like I murdered someone. She told me to distance myself from him and said to date within my race, I'm white. I got ooffended because I didn't think she was going to act this way. Because of someone's skin color? I said she was being racist. I got upset, she said I was doing this for attention and I deliberately not told her his race. I don't immediately tell someone's skin color to someone. That's just weird. She wanted to see a photo of him but I don't have one and she told me I was "already embarrassed of him".

How can people be so cruel?

He even asked me if his skin color bothered me. I was so dumbfounded he even asked me that.. but now I see why.. I really didn't believe in social profiling but now I 100% do.

Well if race didn't matter to you. Then you should of told your mother from the start. So you intentionally hide it from her, probably because you knew how she would react. So take responsibility for doing that.

I am not saying your mother is right in anyway. I just saying you were not 100% honest with her... so your wrong on that level. But if you want to date this guy then date him. Its obvious you want your mother's approval, but also know that's not realistic given what you know about her. So if doesn't matter to you then just be honest about it.

But the fact that you did hide it from her, kind of suggests that you were ashamed to tell her.

I didn't hide anything from her lol. I showed her photos of all different types of men online I didn't hide anything. Whatever race I decide to date is none of her business and she should look at how they treat me. I don't go around saying "I met this white guy online" lmao

And if it's none of your mom's business, then WHT are you involving her in the process? Why would care what her opinion is? Why even seek her involvement.

She’s suggesting what she wants for you. It’s not her life. Her job is done. She’s your mother so she can make suggestions, doesn’t mean you have to follow them.
