Why do some people say don’t go for looks when choosing a dating partner?

I strongly disagree with it. For me, without exception looks matter to me. I don’t care how good a personality she has, she has to be pretty. An ugly face destroys a good personality. Looks just aren’t everything that matters.

Looks and personality go hand and hand. However, looks will always matter to me regardless. Personality means nothing to me if she isn’t pretty. If she’s not physically attractive, it will always be a deal breaker for me. I’d rather be single the rest of my life than have an unattractive woman.

at the end of the day, everybody is shallow from the moment they are born. experiments have been conducted where babies would show happiness and joy towards conventionally attractive faces and show fear and repulsion towards conventionally unattractive faces

there's a reason human beings show more fear towards kittens and puppy dogs than spiders. kittens and puppy dogs are cute and spiders are ugly. we are hardwired to love beauty and hate ugliness. if Cinderella was ugly and her step-sisters were hot, that story would never have taken off. if Aladdin looked Quasimodo, what he did would be considered an atrocity. Edward Cullen and Christian Gray are considered romantic but let them look like the Joker and Twilight plus 50 Shades of Grey is a crime thriller

ugly people aren't viewed as humans. they are seen as monstrosities that contaminate the gene pool. sure ugly people can get action with each other and circumstances can allow them to get action with more attractive people

e. g. men will fuck anything that moves including women they hate and women they are not attracted to. women will fuck ugly men if you pay them but under no circumstances is there any love involved

should looks really matter more than personality in the end? no. not really

but do looks matter more than personality? yes they sure as hell do

Depends on what you are looking for. Certainly if its a long term relationship, then looks don't last.

If its just for some fun, then I guess looks are OK, but someone fun to be with (in all sorts of ways) seems a lot more important to me.

Of course we all want to be with someone we’re attracted to.

But they’re saying don’t be too shallow about it. Don’t date someone solely because they’re attractive.

I don't think anyone expects anyone to not care about looks at all. They are just saying to not just go for looks.
