It's their choice. Being average doesn't mean being unattractive or unable to date someone better-looking. You can always try, but it's good to be self-aware. It seems kinda shallow at first but come on, we all know that appearance matters.

I don't necessarily think if people say that average looking, that you are that. It's just some people's opinions. Of course not everyone thinks that. Some people think average means unattractive, I don't even know what it means. I just hear people say things like that a lot

Other people tell me I am beautiful. As for me, it depends. I've had some body image issues and used to be criticized a lot as a child. Sometimes I enjoy my looks and feel very attractive and sometimes I feel bad about myself and I am like "These people are wrong, I am not beautiful at all, I hate myself". The past still affects me. I am rather shy and very insecure most of the time. But I try not to show this. A few times I told someone about it and they have accused me of fake modesty. It hurt.
