I want to spend my birthday with him and not my kids?

So im turning 24 and I have a 3 year old and a 2 year old. Im dating this guy for 6 months now. I decided I want to spend my birthday with him just him and I while my kids are with their dad. I spend almost everyday with my kids, I feel I can choose who to spend this birthday with since all the past birthdays i have spent them with my kids. I wanna prioritize myself and have some fun that day. Well my boyfriend keeps insisting on me spending it with my kids and he’ll see me the day after. It’s not the same I want to have fun and go out for drinks on my birthday. What would you do?

Does this guy care what you want? Why doesn't he understand why you want to spend your birthday with him? Why isn't he flattered? Why wouldn't he want to make it magical for you?

Cause he always wants me to be a mom before I am his girlfriend and yeah I understand that but it’s my day and I wanna spend it with him getting drinks or something

@asker you should explain to him that you will never stop being a mom, you just want to spend your day being free of having kids around. He needs to start being considerate about the fact that mothers need breaks too. Tell him to knock it off and make plans with you

@jahaims it’s not an assumption, it’s most likely a man that oversteps his boundaries when rule making because he plays the step daddy role. It simply isn’t okay. And no it’s not okay for a person to constantly shove “you need to take care of your kids first” in a mothers face everyday.
