But it also depends on what you mean by online.


If you’re talking about apps like Tinder, then yeah—success will be heavily skewed towards looks.


If you’re talking about matchmaking sites like eHarmony, they not only require a monthly subscription, but you also need to take a bunch of personality tests and have thoroughly written profiles, which means the people on there actually care what your personality is and what’s in your bio.


Then you have apps that are in between like Instagram or Facebook, where you are able to see their feed and what kind of content they put out.


So, I’d say it’s a spectrum. Some platforms are more personality-based. Other platforms are more looks-based.


So it really depends on where you are online—if the platform attracts a more superficial crowd or more sophisticated crowd.

I’ve had success both online and offline, but for online I’ve never used dating apps. So, I’d say pick a platform that allows your personality to shine. (e. g. NOT Tinder)

In terms of what can fall under finding romantic relationships via online, there’s a huge plethora of avenues.

Dating apps on Smartphones is just one—but even among those, there are different demographics like Tinder vs Bumble.
