Why do people assume that they are automatically “dating” someone?

Hi I’m a 22yr old woman and the past 3 guys I been talking to ( with the age range of 22-35, this is within a 3yr span of my life) have just assumed that we are dating. These men have not asked me to be their significant other or to be just exclusive. They just upright assume I’m their girlfriend and get mad when I tell them I don’t want to have sex with them because of personal reasons. It could be a miscommunication but to me it couldn’t when we never had that conversation. Could it be so weird manipulation? Or maybe I just don’t understand dating? It’s not like I have a roster of 20 guys, I’m too busy with working full time and school…i barely have time for 1. So why do they assume I’m their girlfriend when we never had that conversation?

Dating and being someones girlfriend is differnt dating is that stage of getting to know someone going out on dates or hanging out
