Was I taken advantage of on the date?

A guy asked me if I wanted to go out for a drink and a meal. He never said it was a date.

We ended up going for a meal and bowling. I ended up paying for everything. I wanted to go half and half, but he seemed to take a step back to let me pay. He never offered me his share. If he paid, I'd have forced my share of the money onto him.

He said we should go out again. But I can't afford to pay for us both. I'd rather we pay our own share.

How can I let him know that without sounding mean or greedy? Do you think he took advantage?

Yes, you got it deep. He is that kind of person that will inconspicuously suggest to go out for a drink and will find an excuse when it comes to paying. He will pretend to go to the washroom just shortly before the waiter brings the tab for example.

I would not bother with that fellow anymore. I am also sure that he will attempt to pull that trick again the next time you go out on a date or whatever he wants to call that meeting.

If you want to make sure that he pays for his share, you let him know that your budget for the date is so much and so much and not a penny/cent more. Make sure that your budget just covers your consumption and not the entire bill again.

If he wants to get together again, just lightly, jokingly say "Since I paid last time, you've got it this time, right?" You could also add, not a cheapo, right? As a joke.

What a tool. Whoever asks for the date should pay for it (this includes women asking men out). If it’s going to be 50/50 it should be established before heading out.
