I matched with a guy and he shared one weird detail about this parents, Is it a red flag or should I go on a date with him?

I matched with him, we flirted a bit and planned our date this Wednesday.

Yesterday talking on call, out of no where he shared how his dad use to spank his mom. I weirdly said "Umm.. okay" and he still continued saying, "Yeah, even when I was in college sometimes I used to come home to this and I use to be like ohh mom what did you do today"

I made an excuse after that and hang up. He texted me after few hours asking me if I am busy and I called him. We talked for about 25 minutes normally, he didn't say anything about that spanking thing, nor did I brought it up.

Should I cancel the date? Or am I overthinking about it and he was just sharing few things about him to take this relationship ahead.

This is a very weird thing to bring up to a possible future date.
Keep in mind that you always put your best foot forward while trying to impress a possible new date. Is this his best foot?
It of course is totally up to you if you go or not but I would. Why not? If he continues to be weird there doesn’t have to be a second. BUT! I would tell him that is weird behavior for his dad AND if anyone ever did that to you they will end up in jail for assault (put that idea that he might spank you right out of his head)! Be honest….
