We met at the airport and we have been talking ever since, we live in different states. I like him and I know he likes me, he calls me hun and cute nicknames. Still, is he my boyfriend? He didn't really ask but I know some people consider it a relationship without directly asking. But I'm embarrassed to ask him

I think the boyfriend/girlfriend thing means both know they are dating each other. When that happens, yes he is your Boyfriend.
