Don't take a selfie, lenses are designed to work further away so get a friend to take it.

Look square on, and make your face as symmetrical as possible, take lots of photos with slight head movements to find the best shot.

Have one eye dead centre of the photo.

In your photo the camera isn't held straight so the background looks wonky and distracting. Pick one without obvious lines.

Phone cameras struggle with focal depth and will try and focus on background stuff too. You can use this to mask any minor flaws so experiment.

Those lights in the background play havoc, try a back and a side light. If you're outside eliminate the sky.

Consider dropping the shaggy from Scooby doo look.
