Why do I feel like my ex is just looking for an ego boost?

He broke up with me again after we got back together again. He said I should move on and doesn't care if I date other people. With in a week he texted and said he missed me and wanted to be friends even though we couldn't make a relationship work. I said sure we can be friends. And I don't know what he expected me to say but he said I didn't sound interested lol. I usually always say how much I love him and don't want to lose him. But this time I'm really done like I don't even care. It's like it just clicked in my head that this pattern is turning toxic. I'm at a point where I'm sure he doesn't even want me he just wants the feeling if being wanted and having his ego stroked. This time I'm not even going to fall in the trap and get all riles up and angry because he always does that to me. Why do people do this? It's like the saying how exes come back to check of you're still stupid lol

Why keep in touch with an ex at all when you know a relationship is never going to work? Move on. Block and delete his number and everything that reminds you of him. If you keep allowing him access to you he'll keep coming back with more BS and you'll keep getting hurt and disappointed.
