Our needs and wants from this “game” aren't assigned strictly by gender or sex either , they are specific to the individual and variable dependent on life stage and feelings at the time of the date ! The outcome of the dating game is decided by perceived compatability of both at that unique point in time and also couple specific so there is no answer to this, there could never be And all this without even mentioning same sex dating.

I don't think it is answerable. Probably it is both the interactions of both men and women and a conflict in strategies.

Looking at marriage for a moment, the current median length is 8 years before women unilaterally no fault divorce. Women might argue 50% of husbands are unsatisfactory but men can argue that if the expectations are so great that 50% of men can't meet them than over demanding expectations is the problem.

For the first time, thanks to technology, women do have a man shop to browse through and the hypergamy instincts of women have have full force now.

Women largely did extract a relationship as the price of sex in the past but now offer it without and preconditions. Men are of course saying yes please to sex without relationships.

Yet relationships are expected to form without any motivation for them?

Hard to say. Guys have always been the less emotionally attached gender in my opinion. But the new breed of women today are really narrowing the field to almost a dead heat.
