Who is wrong , me or my boyfriend?

Boyfriend has a habit of saying stupid things and I call him out on it every time. I say that’s a stupid or retarded thing to say. Boyfriend proceeds to get angry and we end up having a fight. I blame him for saying stupid things that causes a fight. It’s usually he gives stupid opinions on stuff.

He tells me he hates being called stupid or made to feel stupid and it triggers him so he gets defensive and starts arguing back.

He tells me I also say stupid things but he’s got manners so doesn’t call me out on it. I usually tell him to give me an example of this and he never can so I know for a fact I don’t say stupid things. He claims I’m saying I’m perfect. I’m not I just don’t say stupid things like him.

Who needs to apologise here?

You’re boyfriend getting angry and defensive for being called stupid is warranted. Even if he’s actually saying stupid things you could’ve called him out in a different way especially since he’s already specifically told you that being called stupid triggers him.

But if he is being stupid or saying stupid things why wouldn’t I call him out on it when it annoys me? I’m just a very direct honest person and I’ll be honest if he is being stupid. If it triggers him then shouldn’t he stop saying stupid things and then I won’t have to call him out on it?

What would you consider to be a stupid thing to say tho? It’s okay to call him out on it if it bothers you but the way you call him out matters, your choice of words and your tone also matters. If you go for the kill and attack him by calling him stupid then don’t expect him to just be okay with it.

Well when he says a fact that’s clearly wrong then I’ll call him out on it. And say that’s a stupid thing to say.

I used to be respectful but when it’s happened so many times I don’t have the patience. He should know saying stupid things pisses me off

That’s valid. Seems like the two of you are incompatible then. My friend also broke it off with his girlfriend bcs he thought that she was stupid, he ended up resenting her and broke it off before it got worse. Might be something you want to consider.

It seems like if you're dating someone who " has a habit of saying stupid things ", one would think you must be okay with them being stupid otherwise you won't be with them.. so why keep putting him down when he's being his stupid self? Lol..
