Is dumb and stupid the same thing?

I say they're not because if you're ​dumb you don't have common sense and if you're stupid, you have common sense and you know the consequences but you choose to be stupid and do the wrong thing anyway. Maybe I'm over thinking it but I don't agree that they're the same.

no they have very similar meanings but the 2 words are not the same exact thing

They have sightly different connotations, but for the most part they're interchangeable. I think of "stupid" as a little more aggressive than "dumb."

Dumb means you're mute and can't speak. Stupid means you're of low intelligence.
