Is it wrong that I didn’t get hired because I don’t have a car?

This is a hiring agency, not the employers that disqualified me.

A car is not needed to do the job. I live a half mile away from the job I was interested in. I need a job so that I can afford a car. I’ve been biking to work for two years and have referrals that can say I’ve never been late or have ever called out once. I am eligible for the job based on all other qualifications. I would have been hired. It’s just because I don’t have a car. I’m really upset. Because now i’m stuck in this cycle of i can’t get a job because i don’t have a car and i don’t have a car to get to longer distance jobs.

That's ridiculous! If you don't need a car for the job and live close... that should be that! Why do you have to go through the hiring agency? Can you not apply directly with the employer? This is bullshit. Is this a requirement for jobs if you go with a different hiring agency or try and apply directly? There has to be some solution here for you.

Can you just lie about having a car? Like if that's at all possible, then fuck yea do that. But if they need like documentation to prove that you have a car... obviously that won't work. But I feel like you would totally be justified to lie about this. If you can.

That's such crap! I would've been upset about that, too. I had something similar when in my early 20s; so many jobs required a drivers license where I lived, for some reason. A state ID is easy to get if you have $90 and two hours to waste, but an actual license takes a lot to get. It's a huge pain in the ass. And so many jobs won't hire you without an actual driver's license.

Understandable if it’s a specific job that requires you to have a car, there are a lot of those out there but if it’s not something that actually requires a car then that sounds pretty wrong to me. Not everyone has a car and can drive and there are many other ways of them making it to work 🤔


Just keep looking and applying to places that you want, I’m sure you’ll get there eventually.

Most jobs ask if you have reliable transportation. If you can rephrase it in those words, it’s probably more sellable.
I don’t recall ever being asked specifically if I have a car, just whether or not I have reliable transportation. Sorry, I’m sure that’s extremely frustrating.

Likely wasn't that you don't have a car. Most employers know it's difficult to have a car.

You likely didn't stress enough that you would find whatever means necessary to get there, and on time.

I didn't own a car for a while, but I made sure I was there, no matter what, on time and ready to work.

You have to prove that to them, in the interview.

Now, granted, if you're out interviewing for NASCAR, then of course, it's not going to work, lol

i'd lost out twice on jobs for that reason in the past. I explained to them I could walk and lived less than 3 miles away. Just that I couldnt come in on/right after a blizzard (obvious reasons) but I was still willing to walk it in the rain and all.

This is one of the problems with hiring agencies. The company that I used to work for used those and it took FOREVER to find candidates because they excluded so many.

They might just feel like a car is the only type of reliable transportation so you not owning a car is a disqualification for that company or whatnot
