So i think one time I was just cleaning the rooms of some office and my boss was just talking to me, praising me while I was vacuuming. I wasn't really listening and I heard her ask me a question and I just said "Yup, sure." I suddenly feel like a good firm pat on my ass and I was shocked and just took a glance. "Keep up the good work, Sour-Rose! You're doing god's work." and it never came up. I didn't know what to say or do at the time. I kept my eye on her and she was always friendly as usual. I expected she smack my butt with good intention again buuut...

So what y'all think? I still work with said company but i barely see her now a days.

Yes we get this similar stuff. where i work. You tend steer away from the one are a little touchy feely. Its usually the older ones and senior in authority. There is one that is always smacking my ass, its not hard , but he's like a stelth bomber, you cannot hear him coming..

I don't see what's the big deal unless you think it's a big deal. This is navigating how people feel as I see it which I've known how to do reasonably well. If she's clueless and can't take a hint, then maybe report her. If you think it's funny, what's the big deal?

At the very least I think if we want to go to extremes, let's go extremes. We can dress in a unisex dress code, have strict rules -- no jokes, no touching, no make-up, no banter, no talking about what you did last weekend -- do your job! You are a robot! Or we can navigate the complexities of human interaction. There are clueless people out there as far as social interactions and they need to be rehabilitated. But there are also people who have a great sense of how other people feel, and how they make them feel, that don't. I tend to think those latter types are the majority. But you know, I want people to pick one or the other. We can either be the most formal and robotic in our jobs with objective rules or we can navigate this stuff with subjective criteria. What doesn't work as I see it is some awkward mix of the two.
