Is fantasy or imagination needed to attain wealth?

My dad thought my life was over when he discovered I was not good at STEM and he had me tested for mental retardation because I had a B+ in math and he was an engineering scholar who thought anybody who could not ace a Bachelor engineering class was severely retarded. My aunt and cousin read my poetry and were certain I’d become a millionaire author who could have everything I’ve ever wanted, but my dad though physics and math was the only thing that could build a life.

Mostly you need luck. It helps to have a highly marketable skill, like software development. Very few writers are exceptionally wealthy. Best-selling authors have a comfortable life, but the real money comes from film adaptations. Poetry pays very well when it's the lyrics to a hit song. Otherwise not so much. Quick, how many rock stars can you name? Ok, now how many contemporary poets can you name?

There are many ways to attain wealth and few attain great wealth. I met a wealthy plumber who didn’t use fantasy or imagination to become wealthy, just learned a trade and started a business.

Neither. You just need investors and a lucky break. Many of our most successful entrepreneurs started their businesses with nothing more than a check from their rich family.
