Poll- how can I stop being broke and save money help? I can’t find a second part time job?

I have a part time job packing clothes at night. It’s 20 hours if I work 5 days. It’s flex so you can take any days off. I make only $300 a week & struggle using only $50 for food $50 for gas a week. The other $200 is for rent but I end up not having enough for rent by the end of the month $200-$300 short. As sometimes my expenses get higher and I spend $50 extra like on cleaning supplies I run out of or extra gas money or extra food, or my makeup ran out & need buy it again. By this weekend I’ll have only $500 in savings but by end septmebr want $2000 in savings. I’m not being accepted by any part time job this week no luck. I got accepted to one to start tomorrow but the schedule conflicts my part time clothing packing job at night. Like I start tomrow 5pm to 10pm but my other job starts at 10pm. Then 2 days that new job starts at 6:30Am to 2:30pm and I sleep until 3-5am as my packing clothes job ends at 2pm and I’m home by 2:30 and sleep til 3-5am as my sleep is messed up. I can’t find a job for extra money in the afternoon. One job that began at 11 noon might not accept me as he wanted interview more people

1. Get on welfare. The reason it exists is for broke people such as yourself who are not able to make enough money to pay rent, eat food, and take care of minimum expenses. I'm guessing you can qualify for $200 worth of food stamp/EBT benefits a month, which is what you are spending right now getting by. That would mean an extra $200 toward your rent that you are short $200-$300.

2. Keep job hunting, and shoot much higher. Right now you make $15/hour. Look for $20/hour minimum, no lower. Maybe even $25/hour.

3. Pay attention to the skills and education needed for each job while hunting, and consider if you can obtain them, how long it would take and how much it would cost. Some examples in my area, you could do a 6 month EMT course, then work at the local hospital making $21/hour. The other great thing about the hospital is they offer lots of overtime shifts with bonuses. Like if you pick up an extra shift, you will make $32/hour for 12 hours, plus you get a $200 bonus for the shift extra. So you normally make $252/shift, but for picking up a shift you would make $200 + $384 = $584. For one night of work. You could literally be making more in one night than you do now in a week. With very little education/training.

That's okay, just keep looking and don't give up. When the COVID started, I was a bartender and they closed my resort, I applied to dozens of jobs. I ended up working for less than $20/hour for several months but I kept looking and applying. It will be easier the more experience, training, education, and skills you have. You can also learn a lot going to multiple interviews and asking questions, even getting feedback like from the job you weren't chosen for, you can still call or see them and ask about your interview and get feedback to improve, or improve even just the layout of your CV/resume.

Aren't you the same woman who said you want to be strong & independent and never to depend on a man? So my question is, where do you see this all going in 10-15 years? Where will you be in 15 years. And what about 20 years?

Feel free to think of women at those ages who are doing things the way you want to do them to get an idea. And then tell us how are you different from those women.

You might need to quit the job you have and find a full time job that gives you more hours and pays more. When it comes to food, try and buy food that is on sale or buy home brand products. Sometimes home brand products taste just as good at the more expensive foods.

You said that sometimes you don't have enough for rent but at the Same time you are saying you have $500 in savings, maybe cut back on adding as much money to your savings.

The reason why I have part time job is because I used to sell full time money with my business at home. But July to augsut sales are bad like zero and this has never happened before. If sales get better septmeber and I’m busy then I can’t focus on the full time. Job as customers will be angry and demanding pickup or need me all day working as I used to make $500-$600 a week on my business. Also I won’t quit my part time job as it’s a good job it’s easy. I won’t find a better job than this one

I had another part time job 2 wks ago but had quit as it was one hour away and I slept one hour only and cudnt wake up so early at 7am. It was a good office job I’m so sad. I might start another job Friday remote. $300 a month only. Have to do computer work in my laptop for a clothing brand

I applied to one job that pays little more but he wanted interview more people and tomrow see who gets the job so I won’t get that job he found someone better most likely. Also I like my current job as u only need work 2 days a week the least. So I can even get an agency job that’s temporary work full time one week or two then quit then resume working 5-6 days as i usually do at the job at night packing clothes

Unfortunately you will still be in the same struggle zone. No one is going to hire you if you plan on quitting the job in a few weeks or you can't commit to the hours. You are wasting the companies time and you are also taking the job away from someone who does want the job and who will be willing and down for working there long term. There is sadly no guarantee your own business will bring in anymore money

Like I said I applied to one job did interview it was noon to 3pm and I’ll see if I got the job tomrow or not as he said Thursday he’ll see who gets the job. Those hours are good so I work at night at the packing clothes job and yes my business brings in money it won’t be zero forever the resson y I’m not making sales now is cuz I need more inventory I sold out

Yeah and as you said if your business does pick up again you will quit the other job so you are wasting people's time and energy. You came here for advice and you have been given advice but you don't want to take anything on board, instead you are just dead set on hoping for the 2nd job which you have zero intentions of staying there long term or for the next couple of months.

I do plan get a second job that’s long term. But I need a second job that’s like 2 Days a week. I have interview tomrow for one that’s 2 days a week

There are plenty of programs post covid for people to train for careers. You need a long term solution to this problem. You might find something in the healthcare field that you could get a certificate in a year The healthcare field is always looking to hire people. Go to your local community college and meet with a counselor and talk about what is available and what you are suited for. .

That job is Thursday Monday 5pm to 10pm and Tuesday Friday 6:30am to 2:30pm. So I would do the packing night job Sunday wensday Tuesday and Friday?
