Or do you know anyone who thinks that way?
I just met parents who are trying to persuade their daughter not to work in science because it's a guy thing...
If anything all I see is educational, government and political institutions trying to promote women in traditionally male dominated fields regardless if women are good at their job or not.
Now if a woman is as good at traditional male job then I give them 100% support. Seriously that’s impressive if she can perform at the same standards as aman. There are female fighter pilots and women in army special forces (who passed the same grueling requirements as the guys). Just as long she wasn’t given any special privileges then great.
However we know got ass backward scenarios like our sitting VP Kamala Harris. She has obtained the highest ranking position of any woman in history and yet why don’t you hear tons of hoopla about her like Barack Obama? She absolutely sucks at her job that’s why. She was put in charge of the border crisis yet she’s never visited and it’s been an absolute crisis down there. But again Biden explicitly said he wanted a “black female” running mate and that was just so SO important.Anyway myself and most men completely support women who 1) are competent in their fields 2) actually really want the job. 3) don’t get any special privileges or ask for any special accolades/attention. Competent human beings never pursue difficult jobs because for reason number 3 anyway. They already love what they do.

Not really- but there ARE fields that're going to have more male than female workers (and vice versa); gender differences don't stop at the neck. While I'm all for allowing anyone into any field, if they can hack it, expecting equal numbers in everything is just denying reality.
It depends what you mean by jobs for girls and jobs for guys. Do you mean jobs that it is only possible for one to do and not the other? Or do you mean jobs that you rarely see a woman doing or don't usually see a man doing? There is no question there are jobs that are done almost exclusively by men or women, but that doesn't mean either can't do them IF they want to, and IF they can meet the requirements. In the US at least, there are no real barriers to either sex going into virtually any occupation provided they meet any physical or other requirements for a specific job. The differences today are much more about what kinds of jobs men and women are naturally drawn to
Below is a link to a list of occupations sorted by the percentage of males and females in them. The top 20 on the list are all more than 95% male. The bottom 20 are 85% or more female.
Vehicle Technicians, Mechanics and Electricians are virtually 100% male. Is there any reason a woman couldn't do those jobs? Nope. Are they many women who would want to? Nope.
Legal Secretaries are more than 96% female. Is there any reason a man couldn't do those jobs? Nope. Are they many men who would want to? Nope.
No, literally anyone can work a job these days. There's guys who work in fashion, and other kinds of artsy stuff. Does that make it "girly" or "fruity"? No, it's just their calling and they enjoy doing it. Just like science jobs. Guys do the job, but girls can do just as good of a job or even better with it too. There's even women who do construction work and plumbing lmao..

No. I honestly don't.
I work in nursing and there are plenty of male nurses already in our field. Actually, way too many men in a field traditionally female dominated field. There are also sooo many female police officers nowadays. So much more than I saw when I was growing up just 15 years ago.
This just shows that there is no such thing as a strictly "male" or "female" job. There will be males who enjoy nurturing patients. The same way as many women who have a desire to serve and protect their communities as police officers. There is also a noticeable increase in female electricians.
Just because you are a male, it does not mean you would never want to be a nurse. Just because you are a woman, it does not mean she would never want to be a police officer or ever join a trade ever. Just because you are a specific gender, it does not mean you can't be interested in the same things as the opposite gender. To assume so is extremely sexist and close minded. We live in a generation where men and women today get to enjoy the opportunities that our prior generations never had.
Practically speaking, the reality is that there are some jobs that the vast majority of women will never be capable of for physical reasons.
There are also a lot of jobs that women could do, but choose not to. These are dirty and/or dangerous jobs that tend to pay well for those reasons, and the vast majority of women would rather die than do those jobs every day.
Then there are jobs that appeal more to women than men and vice versa. Men gravitate toward STEM fields, and women don't. Women are certainly capable of doing them but many simply aren't interested, in spite of all the millions of dollars spent every year on programs, scholarships and grants to entice women into those fields. On the other end are fields like Human Resources, which is dominated by women (80%).
Isn't it time we get past all the politically correct stuff and acknowledge that men and women are different and are drawn to / capable of different things? Why do we still have to tiptoe around this subject for fear someone feelings will get hurt?
While it may be a stereotype it is still true that some employment is gendered and will continue to be so. Not exclusively so but largely.
It is rather an old scientific result now but male and female brains are structurally different. Females have a more dedicated speech area in their brain. Guys have a more dedicated space center in their brain.
Now it is the space center in the brain that is used for mathematics. So generally you would expect males to have greater proclivity with maths. That will dispose men to go into certain fields more than women. And conversely women go into fields where say language skills are important more than men.
Before anybody gets upset that male and female brains are structurally different, it is actually good that a male female couple bring more capability to the table than a same gender couple. Clever evolution.Well technically yes. Most men do the really hard, life threatening jobs like construction, firefighter, truck driving, policemen etc. These are jobs/careers the women could apply for, but most do not go into these fields. Women tend to go for jobs that don't require a lot physical strength and long hours. Women tend to go for jobs like accounting, teaching, medical, beauty and fashion, culinary. Secretary etc.
This also depends on what interest men and women career choice wise and what their bodies will allow. Both sexes are many different career fields it just depends on their capabilities.
Yes and no. In general terms, productivity would improve if we ignored diversity in very physically demanding industries. As an electrician, i’ve never met a female who could match my pace let alone better me. The apprenticeship pushes through girls who can’t lift and carry a bundle of 1” conduit, in the name of diversity. Guys are routinely cut who fail the same task, or get frustrated that they have to carry a female peer’s conduit for her. “Equal pay for equal work”? Ain’t happening! Ell oh ell! If men aren’t doing more than their female counterparts, they’re getting fired for doing too little.
a job is just something you do to get it done. so anyone can technically get it done. But certain jobs need a certain attributes weather physically or mentally. If can do the job, then do it but if are told no then it’s discrimination. Now also if the job involves other people and/or provides services to other a guy only or girl only positions might be justified. Being a doctor, massage therapist, janitor cleaning the bathroom, a police officer doing a strip search, jail guard are thing that’s come to mind
I dont see a point of a man modelling for victoria's secret. Also hooter's restaurant famous for serving food by girls with big boobs is not allowed to open up in Finland for job selection laws that cancel men's job opportunities.
If hooters opened up in here, and those laws would be gone, i can imagine a protest of men formin an equal rights movement to serve at hooters. There are no jobs that only one gender can do. Or well it would be hard for a girl to be a male stripper.
There are jobs that might be a bit more physical demanding so people argue that men are better suited for it. But that doesn't mean it's only for men. There are many girls that can do those jobs while there's also many guys who don't have the physique to do them.I just never ever saw it that way in the first place...
never heard of that in my family, never heard of it at school... didn't hear about it from my actual circles
the only times I would hear this stuff was in the context of controversial takes on media and some movies or whatever, and then of course, I didn't give it much validation because is just not part of my actual life and environment, lolNope not at all, but I do think there are jobs that either gender may find easier. For example most men are physically stronger biologically, BUT a woman who does strength training at the gym, will be stronger than a man who doesn't workout whatsoever and only has the fact behind him he's a 'man.'
for your scenario of “girls shouldn't go into science” no there shouldn’t be a gender specific job.
However, there are jobs that do require physical labour and by default men tend to have an advantage over women. But some people like to take up the challenge :)
Women will naturally work in what they like more. Most women would work jobs that are typically female. Nowadays women get bombarded literally with to do all male jobs but somehow its always those nice cozy office jobs they get lured with.
Some countries have even forced companies to hire women because women are not doing those jobs and not interested in them. I expect those companies to have major losses and they know it. They just don't tell.
I think there are always going to be disciplines that are heavy with one gender or the other, but I don't think that's a problem.
If you have particular strengths, and you want to push for a specific job or field of practice, go for it.
No, I do not think that way and I do not know anyone who thinks that way.
Yes. But only because you're daft enough to not put "other" as an option.
Look at equality of opportunity instead of outcome. There are so many jobs out there but after the pandemic people still want to (do no) work from home and get paid to do nothing. I always believed that all good things come to an end so I am prepared for any worst case scenario because after a while people get very complacent and cry foul when they have to return to the office and quit
Not that they can't work there, more like they don't want to work there.
There is no such thing as a "man's" job or a "woman's" job.
here's the 1950s housewife obsession all over again. we simply can't get enough misogynists around here, huh?
tell your sister to not pursue what she wants because of gender roles. sound like a real misogynist.
Yeah, mostly jobs that require strength and high intelligence. There's nearly no female Navy seals and even when women are placed at the same standards as men during the regular fitness test, most women fail it. There's also jobs are uninteresting; there's few men working as secretaries and assistants as well as few women working as electricians or as carpenters.
