You could have multiple, but is your biggest motivator in life?

What is the biggest motivation behind your goals in life?

Advancement : having a new goal and seeing yourself succeed. Managing to get that new promotion or meeting a new dead line, etc.

Madness : Having a new enemy/target to face, a new competition to win at, etc. You want to be the best at what you do and be better than anyone else.

Individuality : you're motivated by your "future life" or how your life could be like. Maybe you want safety and some good ol' recognition.

Purpose : wanting to be in the history books and written about, maybe by changing the world or by helping others.

I was reading "Your Next Five Moves" by Patrick Bet David (& Greg Dinkin) recently. one of the things the book talks about is the different types of motivation, Hench the question.

It used to be to improve this sh*tty world we live in, and to make it better for everyone currently in it, as well as future generations, since humanity shouldn't be this sh*tty and things are fundamentally broken at the civilization level to the point if I believed in God, I'd call modern society "Sodom and Gomorrah times a million." This world would need a giant flood and we'd let Steve Carell build a giant zoo ark for it.

But... As I already said in a MyTake, I don't have the physical capabilities to inspire people in this world, so my efforts and attempts to try to rally people together, improve society, and make things less sh*tty, have all fallen on deaf ears. No one listens to manlets (at least in modern society; yes, I know MLK, Napoleon, Jeff Bezos, Steve Jobs, etc, were short men, too.)

If I was tall, aka socially acceptable, I'd literally be able to change the world, and likely have come from better parents with a better life, too. But I'm not. Oh well.

So I gave up all my motivations, goals, and dreams in life. They are literally impossible. All I can do now, is spend my pointless existence trying to help young people not give up their dreams and inspire them to keep going, even if I kind of feel like a fraud doing it. I never stood a chance due to genetic inferiority. But maybe if I can help others, my life won't be 100% worthless; I dunno...

All I DO know is that modern civilization, especially in the current Western world, is sh*t and if no one else is going to care about fixing things but me, then it'll continue to be that way.

TL;DR: My life goals used to be Purpose, but now it's personal Nihilism.

I don't set goals, as at the end of the day i would be sad if i was unable to achieve it. So, i try achieve things without any pressure of a goal commitment and show them to myself making me happy.

This thing depends on each individual, for me not setting goals but achieving things and feeling satisfied makes me happy.

Overall advancement. Madness is a part of it though, there is a person I really look up to my dream. We both do martial arts but she's the coach and one of my dreams was to go toe to toe with her in a "sparring" match, all out. After 9-10 years it finally happened, a few weeks ago. She's way ahead of me and my arm is now bruised and is still healing, but at least I got what I wanted. And some recognition from her.

But actually it's advancement. I love improvement. I don't have a bucket list but having a little checklist and doing the tasks gives me a lot of satisfaction, or looking back at a skill you started to learn and are now okay at or great at. It's an awesome feeling to look back and see that you've come so far. Deadlines, sure, they're satisfying. But advancement in relationships. Me and a friend grew closer after I offered help during a depression she was going through and we are now very close and through her I recently met someone new, she also really nice so I'm curious to what 2023 has in store for that.

I'm also three years into my relationship, I had been on gag for a while and always said that I got tired of dating and would let it happen when it happens... love, that is. Thinking about it I can't believe the luck of having met someone like him and I will fight to keep what I have and see that relationship advance as well

My biggest goal ever since I was 14 years old is I did not want to go to hell after I die. That motivated everything else in my life. Its why I tried to get straight A's, why I tried to learn bible verses, why I tried to get a university degree, why I tried to be nice to people, why I read so many books and watched so many videos, why I try to improve my behaviour every day, and why I try to limit how many unhealthy foods I eat.

Individuality I guess, I want enough money and knowledge to have a peaceful and good life with all little freedom I can get, adopt one or two children and marry without having to go through the pain of childbearing but just getting from and giving companionship to my partner

Not any of these really. It is more about doing something that I can respect and it doesn't matter what others think.

Once you have done something task oriented - no matter how hard - it becomes easy to do. So I think it is best not to value yourself in that way since it evaporates quickly. Not sure how much sense that makes.

I combine purpose, with what the world needs and people will pay for in order to find motivation.

Simple factors to consider:

What do I love?
What am I good at?
What does the world need?
What would people pay for?

Line these up and motivation won't feel forced, and you'll find your flow state.
