What are some ways to have a good work/life balance?

For me, it's mostly a matter of me planning time off from work around my husband's hospital schedule so we have the time together.
My necrophobic husband and I live upstairs in my funeral home, but I make a clear separation between work space and living space. I might bring a schedule upstairs, but otherwise I leave work in the business space. No connectivity to the business network upstairs. No using the "F word" or the "D word" upstairs around my husband. Sometimes I may have to check out an alarm or meet someone downstairs, but if I have to go "do Lily Munster stuff" (as my husband calls it), I leave it when I'm done.
It's just a matter of time management so that we have work time, our time together, time for the dogs, time for keeping house, time for entertainment, and time for each to do our own things when we want.
Don't take it home. I work on a laptop, so it's easy to take it home and check your mails. Leave it at work, if you can't help yourself. I always try to do something I really enjoy after work. Maybe it's going for a walk, the gym, visiting a restaurant. Something that doesn't feel like "you're just waiting to sleep so you can get to work again". So it's more like planning free time when you're going home and planning work when you're going to work. Got to keep those two worlds separate.
Thanks :)
You are welcome. I thought those were all good suggestions and a great opinion. 🙂
@Ms_Facesitter considerable advice indeed, yet I need to study certain software use in order to pursue my next job chance 😬
I use my clothes. Since I work from home is hard to see the line when work ends and home starts.
When I'm working I dress like if I was in the office. While I'm wearing those clothes I'm acting like I act are work, serious, focused, I don't slack and I don't do house chores.
When I finish working I put my regular clothes. When I'm dressing like at home I don't seat in fron of the computer, I act silly or relaxed, and only then I allow myself to watch tv or do house chores.
This is really interesting and such a great opinion! Thanks so much.
😄😄
It will, of course, be different for everyone.

All four of those points interconnect. Be intentional that you're going to being and end your work day at a consistent time. Set boundaries on when you'll accept work text/email/message after hours. Be flexible to understand that, at times, something will require more or will infringe. But, above all, be consistent.

Have an overall plan and stick to it. Plan a certain amount of time for work, and time for yourself and your family. At least once a week, no matter what else is going on, have some down time, where you do not much of anything other than enjoying life.
1 - Learn to say no.
Can you come to work on... Nope.
2 - Learn to negotiate.
Can you do this extra task? Yes, but I have to deprioritize one other task. Let's talk about it.
3 - Log out on time and turn off work-related apps even on mobile
4 - Separate work and personal phone number.
5 - Leave toxic workplace. Yes, you need money but you do not need heart-attack or stroke.
Deadlines are the number one important things. Just set a deadline always. When you look at college it takes four years to finish and get a degree. You know when to expect what you want, so you stick to it till the end.
Now when you look at going to the gym. There are no deadlines. People do not know how long it will take to get the prefect body. Which is why so many people fail and getting in shape. You need to set deadlines on when you need the work done by.
SEPARATION is the key & if you can separate the two a balance you will have. As for me when I’m on the job I’m on the job & when I end my shift my work doesn’t come home with me. As for my personal life it doesn’t go to work with me.
For me it is about leaving work - at work, which is sometimes easier said than done and allow myself downtime without any obligations - which includes obligations from friends, family and responsibilities.
I don’t have a job yet but I balance school and social life by spending time with my boyfriend hanging out with friends and enjoying my hobbies while still leaving enough time to get good grades and participate in extracurriculars
Boundaries. You identify the time you work, and the time you play. You don't let the two cross over. If your boss asks you to stay late to do something, you just smile and say "sir, I would be happy to help you with that, first thing tomorrow morning."
Boundaries. I'm on salary and on call, so I get work assignments at random. But unless its an emergency or I have a lot to do with a short deadline, I don't do a thing past 7pm.
Avoid working overtime. Many people may differ with this, in the end when you turn back and see you realise these extra hours were useless.
You need to give importance to personal life.
Thanks for the opinion!
Switch off when you get home. So no work stuff once you finish self care, downtime such as spending time with loved ones, dinners, spas, travelling abroad. This should be weekly
Get your sleep, this allows you to focus balance all these things on a daily basis.
It’s always a challenge. I mean there are times when that work-life balance gets out of whack, so it’s a constant effort to keep them balanced. Good luck!
Make sure you get a good education in a field that is in demand so you don't have to work a shitty retail job or work in a fast foood place.
Don't agree to work salary only hourly, then set your rate high enough that you wouldn't mind the extra money and the employer will not abuse you.
It is important to make sure you leave time everyday for life.
Separate the two. Work will consume as much time as you let it, especially if you are a business owner, so limit the time frames.
Have enough money to be able to have a life.
For people that want a 4-day work week prisons often offer this. When I worked as a prison doctor I only worked 4 days a week 10 hours a day.
I haven't worked since 2010 so haven't a foggest
Give time for everything. once you set it you will make it
The only way is to be dealt a good hand at birth to where you can work 0 hours per week and make millions
For everyone else, accept that your life will be nothing but endless suffering and misery
4 day workweek and flextime
I wish I had a 4 day workweek.
I used to have it in a previous job. It was GREAT!
I bet! How many hours per day?
10 hours
Okay, not bad. I could do that. 👍
Now, just find the job! 😂
No a hospital. I was a paramedic.
