What are some ways to stay active?

I was about 140lb when starting college, and I was usually underweight for a good part of my life.

My friends started to get worried (I'm 6'2") thinking I had an eating problem, and a trainer told me that if I want to work out, I should gain weight first.

One year (exactly the 2014 year), I had an internship that was basically 8-hours of sitting on a computer. During that time, I ate mostly mexican, then went home and gamed. Not the best way to gain weight, but that is what it took to actually gain weight.

So now I am 185lb, which is higher than I would like, but it is in mostly body fat. Much of it right in the gut. My body has filled out pretty well elsewhere, but I don't have the energy or endurance I used to, and I feel like I could sleep indefinitely.

So I am trying to find ways to be more active. Partially to regain my strength and energy, partially so that a girlfriend wouldn't have to like me -despite- my body. I would like to do so in ways that are embedded in my daily routine. During college, I would walk about 10-16 miles per day, mostly because I didn't have a driver's license, and I enjoyed walking to and from class. There was walking between classes. Walking to clubs. Everything involved walking, and it was amazing.

But now, if I want to get active, I have to take out a chunk of my day to walk around the neighborhood going nowhere, doing nothing. If I lift weights, I prefer it to be in the form of moving heavy things, rather than simply pumping iron. If I am walking, I prefer it when it is a necessity to walk to friends' homes, class, or work, rather than walking just to walk a certain distance.

Any tips? One of the best I could think of is to mount my laptop to a treadmill. But that still seems so petty. I would rather have an active day, rather than an inactive day with activity thrown in as an afterthought.
