Especially, if it was a toxic place. I had coworkers who have been fired from where I work and they couldn’t be happier. They told me themselves they felt relieved and happy.
Oh God yes.
In early 2005, I was working at a job that I took because I needed work and was unemployed for 2 years previously. I knew that I was not a good fit for this small company but I quickly realized that it was an insane asylum. I met another man there who quit with nothing to fall back on because he realized that it was (what we now call) a toxic work environment.
It reached the point where I was nauseous going to work every morning.
So, just at about 5.5 months, in mid-July 2005, they gave me my 2 weeks notice. I was relieved.
It was the lead psychopath - the #2 guy at the company - who told me I was being let go. (This guy was the same wonderfully toxic individual that caused that older gentleman to quit.)
Here's the interesting thing:
My immediate superior - a real douche although I must admit that I admired him a bit - did not know I was being let go!
So, almost at the end of my two weeks left, he was going to be gone on vacation for the next week.
He starts riding my ass a bit about what I will be working on next week.
I smile as it dawns on me "This asshole doesn't know! HE DOESN'T KNOW!" I just nodded and was a yes-man taking his shit. (His wife worked near me and she was an angel.) I could have exploded and thoroughly enjoyed it, but I was 42 and had some class. Besides, every new employer always calls the last one, so I didn't want to leave a really bad impression.
I was also a bit shocked that the head of the company never said anything to me either even on my last day. I think I was the last person out of the office that last day.
Don't get me wrong. I deserved to have been let go. I was not a good fit there. The chemistry was off. So, being let go was like my ex-GF that I was not really into dumping me.
But, I learned some valuable lessons...
I was previously laid-off 2.5 years earlier in JAN 2003 by a conglomerate that is a household name.
There, I was just a number in an ocean of individuals so my destiny mattered to those above like I was a worm being stepped on after a rainstorm.
At this place, it was so small that everyone needs to be vitally important so you can't really grow there easily. In small companies, you have to "hit the ground running".
I was unemployed another 5 months. I changed résumé services and I got a lot more offers than at my last one. So, in December 2005, I got hired as a contractor in the aviation industry. THERE I was a natural. I've been a contractor in this industry ever since. Being a contractor can be scary because it's easier for work to come to an end, but there's more freedom with it since you are never really an employee of the company you work for (the client company) so you don't have to deal with their bullshit AND you can take off whatever days you want. Basically: You work, you get paid; you don't work, you don't get paid. No holidays or paid time off or vacation or sick days. But, if I wanna take off, I take off. As long as I don't mess up the project I am working on, the client and the company are usually OK with that.
Yeah, I am not sure I'd ever go back to being a normal worker at a company again. Especially at my age; you can't start at the bottom when you are almost a senior citizen. So, a contractor I am... "Go on, take the money and run... oooooo Lord... Go on, take the money and run."

I only actually got dismissed once , and it was a big job , but they had been out to get me as I was pushing hard , it was a really embarrassing day as I had a company car , which sadly I of course had to give back haha , they gave me a cab charge and the first cab didn't come , so I was standing on the nature strip waiting for this dam cab , and all the staff were coming by and saying " Where are you of to with all that stuff? " , I didn't want to address anything at that point with staff , as I needed to seek legal advice also , anyhow , horrendous day , but as life would have it , if that didn't happen I would not have gotten into land development where I eventually made much more money than I ever could have even as State Sales Manager , so the day of embarrassments , certainly became a blessing , and cast me on my way.
Yes. First time- i was giving my all to this delivery job but they wanted more... and more. Even risk my own safety for some damn packages. I... i was beating my own ass for these people who didn't give a damn about my mental state. They stressed me out so damn much, I bumped into someone... and they fired me. I wanted to do funkin cartwheels outta there. Visited recently- they went out of business.
2nd time- where. Is. My. Check. They had no answer, and instead of owning up to their mistake, they rather fire me. And like that, they ain't working with the company they were recruiting for.
Most recent time:Security bit for a park. I came in 11 times late because I got lost, excuuuuse me. Wasn't born in this funkin city. Then when my license expired... they considered me not worth the money. I was shocked at first but hearing from a former co-worker, the work they asked of us got worse. Instead of 2 rounds an hour of 18 buttons to scan, they made it 3. And they installed new monitors. If you look at your arm instead of the monitors, the ones watch you from above will call your boss. Good. Damn. Riddance.
Every job that has fired me has been a blessing in disguise. And each one could go fuk themselves, my agreement with them is cut. Time to find someone better.
My two best friends have been happy about getting fired. They're teachers the storiesand experiences they tell me its scary. Kids disrespected them Karen parents and administrators exploiting them. They can no longer sick the kid in a corner because according to school bode that child abuse. Yeah school has become a toxic environment for teachers.

Yep, I worked at a call center for a while. They worked in insurance so they had seasonal hiring for the month of November and I got in on it. It wasn’t so bad until the calls became nonstop. You only got a 30 second break before the next one came in and it was so unbelievably draining. I did a decent job, but I got so stressed I would repeatedly call out on Fridays using the automated system. After doing that for like 2 months straight I very obviously got fired but I had to hide my relief when they told me that. I figured it was inappropriate.
I really did. I was there for 7 weeks and it was the worst place I ever worked. I made up my mind I was going to stick it out but one day I got fired. They could not even tell me why. By their own admission I showed up every day on time and did everything they asked me to do.
hell yeah!
my last job was a prime example. I wanted to get fired because the company I work for was a toxic and socialist enviroment where managers did nothing but gossip and the hardworkers got bullied while those that didn't do shit got praise for their stupidity
not fired... but felt ready to "quit" and move on to other things... happily
yes although the process up to the firing was torture, intentional torture. It was better being out of it.
Yes, companies can be awful... managers can, and can get away with it in some scenarios.
Yeah, I worked at a warehouse for Home Chef.. I guess they were just starting out, and we're pretty unorganized.. I ended up hating the job.. Towards the end it was getting better, but when they fired me, I was actually pretty happy.. Even though for the next year i wouldn't find a job..
Yes and no. I have definitely been happy quitting some past jobs.
But you better have something to fall back on financially if this happens.
Actually yes, when I first got fired from my previous job I was very sad but looking back I'm glad I left that place because I found a place far better to work at where everything has been so much better.
I have not been fired from any job. I usually have the opposite problem. People offer me benefits or incentives to stay……
Even if I am displease with my workplace I'd say quitting feels better than being fired.
I have only been fired once when I was 15 years old, but I definitely understand the feeling. I have felt relief moving on from an employer because it wasn’t a very well ran company, and they didn’t treat people well.
No because a dismissal stays with you forever, you have to report it on future job applications.
It would devastate me. I've been there 39 years and have 6 vacations and 5 personal days. No one hires at my payrate.
Can’t say that I have, but understand many feel relieved when it’s not a good fit.
I used to be happy at my previous workplace, but my working hours were very high. I understand this.
no i couldn't imagine being happier not working
Never been fired
Yes once because everyone bullied me
