How do I list him as a reference?

i just want to make what i wrote sound better.

during my six years i was employed at my last retail job
i met a state trooper for the state i live in.

over the years he give me his phone number & when i left my last job he said i could use him as a reference.

i have a interview at 10am trying i'm trying to fix up my reference sheet.
i was told when i made a reference i should write a little bit about how i know him.

i wrote this

he is a law enforcement officer
he can attest to my character as a individual

I have known him for many years
going back to 2017. during the time
I first started working at my last job.

i took out any private info about him just for this question.

Hey man, that reference sheet sounds pretty solid to me. For how you know the state trooper, I think what you wrote gives enough context without sharing too many personal details. A job will understand just saying he's a law enforcement officer you've known for several years through your past retail work.

The key things they'll want to see is how long you've known each other, in what context or capacity you interacted (like through your last job), and that the reference can speak to your character and work ethic. Sounds like this trooper guy would vouch for you based on knowing you for that long.

I wouldn't stress too much about making it "sound better" - what you have down seems good enough to me. For the interview just be confident in your experience and who you list as references.
