Would you fire this person without any proof but she is the only possible suspect?

My brotehr hates our house maid because for years he believes she steals things from the house (his clothes or some house clothes or even money) even so the maid cleans his house and my brotehr from time to time ask her for favors but he dislikes her and do not trust her.

I know anyone can be replaceable and this maidi had been with us for more than 10 years, she helped her at home while my grandma was ill at home, when she died she remained at home to be the helper at the house in the home chores while my mom used to work and i worked too and also my dad. The years passed and my dad fell sick too and she help my dad too at home while she did her usual home chores even cook for us. My dad died and she continued to be with us to continue to help specially when my dad died and my mom retired and she each year became elder and needed more assistance from someone besides her kids (me and my siblings). My mom now is much older of course and now need a person to be with her and assist her.

Nowadays to find a trustworthy person who can take care of a elder person is more difficult than before. My mom is semi -dependent now. She still can bathe herself, but now she does not drive like before, she attends to soem senior elder classes, and since now she needs more assitance at home well she has this lady who had helped in the house for many years, she also helps me to cook in the house. She has her flaws sure, she is not very proactive and she does not have initiative. My brother still asks her for favors in the house and sometimes he asks her for opinions on some things. This lady let me clarify we of course "won't put our hands in the fire for her" that we won't do., she is our house helper but that is all.

Yesterday my brother lost a pricey whiskey bottle at home in the living room he does not find it where he left it 3 days ago. He believes the maid stole it cause there is no other way to explain the missing bottle if ony us were in the house and no stranger came in,

specially when my brother had never trust her and in the past many things had been lost from him, even if we never had any proof it was her. My brother never locks his room with a key cause his door. I do have a key in my room and I never let her clean my room unless im inside my room. My brother says how is possible that in our own home we have to keep everything locked. So for the whiskey thing my brother says we have to fire the maid and how come me and my mom still want her at home.

Like I said this is the only maid that had had been with us more than 10 years even before my grandma and dad died. My mom now needs assistance, in case me or my brother are not at home some days on the week, and my mom can't stay alone either as she could many years ago, if we fire her we have to find a new woman and start to trust her this new woman of course that we dont know how she will turn out. My brother wants now to fire her even if we dont have any proof.

My brother is not the maid boss and never had been it is my mom who hired her many years ago but now my mom is elder andneed a bit more assistant in the house chores so she always need someone with he, she is retired.

if only she is there, that is beyond a reasonable doubt. like proof. i would replace her. check recommendations of course.
