Would you want to work somewhere with all one gender?

There are no female workers in my line of work. Plenty of female customers, so it's not like there aren't women around, but no female workers. I'm an audio/video integrator, and about 50-60% of my job happens during construction (remodeling construction mostly), when people are doing major upgrades/additions to their houses. We run wires of various types around the house while the walls are open, and then we come back when things are nearly done and we install TVs, speakers, WiFi access points, security cameras, and things like that.
Note that there is nothing prohibiting female workers - it's just that very, very few women choose to be in construction or construction-adjacent fields, with the exception of interior design (which means that, for the most part, they don't get their hands dirty). They mostly carry magazines and catalogs and create lists of items and fixtures and paint colors and so forth that other people will install.
Decades ago, when I was working one of my first jobs in IT, I worked for a real estate company that had a bunch of mortgage offices around the Bay Area. While the "tech skill level" was pretty low on average, it wasn't an especially difficult job, EXCEPT for the 3 or 4 offices that were all or nearly-all women. Those offices were awful - the women were all in groups that were pitted against each other, constantly talked bad about other women and other groups, and probably 60% of their day was spent on their inter-office rivalries rather than doing any work. We all HATED to go to those offices. At least twice there were cat fights with hair pulling and clothes tearing that you'd have thought was junior high school, but these women were mostly in their 40s. They keyed each others cars, hit on each other's boyfriends and husbands, and were just awful to be around.
Most of the offices were a 50/50 or at least 60/40 mix of women and men, and those offices were professional and seemed to mostly run smooth, but where there were no men to keep things calm, it was non-stop claws and tears and screaming.
Have already done that. Have worked jobs where there were almost all women, and jobs where there were almost all men. Both can be bad but I find that predominantly male environments are worse.
You would think that men should be brothers and build each other up but there tends to be a lot of breaking each other down and some guy here thinking he's the top dog, or some guy there gossiping like a girl. Frat boy clubs are not fun to deal with. And for God's sake do not let a female arrive on the scene. Once this happens all the dudes try to one up each other in front of her or turn into pure simps.
I don't think it's beneficial to close workplaces or schools off to one singular gender because that's not reality. When you leave the office when you leave school, you still have to interact with the opposite sex. I feel like there is so much sexism related to this idea that these single gender places are better for those involved because part of life is learning how to work with other people. Just because you're all men or all women doesn't mean these are good men/good women. My last job, I had one male boss in an office full of women. His perspective and work ethic were great. He taught me a lot about good management, was always super respectful of the women in our office, and it was invaluable hearing his POV on many different situations. Just because we were all women doesn't mean we needed a female boss, and conversely, he didn't need an all male staff to have a good staff. Gender has never meant better or worse, good people no matter their "social constructed boxes they must tick" make for good employers or managers.
I work in a profession that struggles to attract women.
I kinda do. I'm a dance instructor and 99 percent of my classes are girls and women. re-state//background_color_rgba (0, 0, 0, 0), font_color_rgb (77, 77, 77), justifyLeft
I went to a Ballet show with my partner when we went to Winnipeg, Canada last year. I was watching male dancers and thinking it must take a lot of practice to be able do what they do. They’re strong yet graceful, every move is planned out and they flawlessly express emotions at the same time. I was thinking how few man could actually do this professionally.
Being a great dancer is hard work for both men and women
yeah i think its more a matter of men being way less willing to learn how then women... because they think its 'gay' to dance lol. it sounds silly but i bet thats what a lot of dudes think still.
Probably correct
Absolutely, it requires skill and hard work for both genders. Being a man I was just imagining myself being a dancer like they are.
I think those guys are probably mostly straight, but no doubt get their sexual orientation questioned by other men. Getting to dance with beautiful women like they do, maybe it would be worth the hard work 😊

I work in an office full of women and I hate it. It's my responsibility to walk to a separate building to check the mail every day because the women don't feel safe walking through the parking lots. Bruh I don't wanna get robbed either 😐. I also do all manual labor because it's cheaper than hiring someone to fix stuff or buy replacements. And the women think I should be doing it because I'm the man. I also get paid less than everyone else, and I'm not going to believe it's for any reason except that I am male. re-state//background_color_rgba (0, 0, 0, 0), font_color_rgb (77, 77, 77), justifyLeft
I've worked with both and I'd rather be alone. I worked with all men and they were just disrespectful, sleazy and even the good ones either left because of the toxic work environment or let me down eventually.
I've worked with all women and all they did was bitch about each other and try and start fights so I left.
Now I work somewhere were it's very mixed and it's just drama after drama. Everyone is shagging everyone and nothing gets done.
Honestly my dream is to never have to worked but if I had to chose. I'd work at home alone with no one else to bother me.
yea, if I was single, I'd work on an island with all women. preferably all naked women? they could still wear hard hats... that's safety equipment.
since I'm married, I wouldn't' want anything to do with that hot mess... I know their games.
Pure hell is working with a bunch of caddy back stabbing females... like in a school. That is what it's like in hell... probably. But if they are naked, maybe wouldn't be so bad?
I've never worked with only men... well, my first boss. it was fine.
Yes - The industries I've worked in are predominately male dominated with few women (except in the offices) in them purely because they are very physically demanding. I have worked in that office environment but I found it was not for me as the women there generated a work environment that was hostile to men, so when it was my time to rotate into the office for my scheduled month, I'd record every interaction with the women in the office. I carried a voice recorder that ran continuously all day and a voice activated recorder at my desk. It was a pity that I had to do that but it was better to be safe than sorry.
Sorry to hear that. I worked with several female colleagues over the past 6 years working in an office setting in the transportation industry. I believe my experience was overwhelming positive, nobody tried to get me fired or set me up for a harassment complaint with HR.
It has its advantages for sure. Don't have to worry about all the "harassment" BS.
On the last job I had working for someone else people were constantly filing FAKE harassment charges against management, the vast majority of them women looking for a payday. It often happened after they got fired because THEY SUCKED AT THEIR JOBS, not because they are women. There were plenty of women who did a FANTASTIC job. THEY didn't get fired.
One of them was lawsuit against my boss the CEO for sexual harassment. I knew first hand it was a COMPLETE LIE because I was an eyewitness to meeting she claimed it happened at. I testified in his support at the hearing and SHE LOST. Who needs that crap to worry about when you are working 80 hours a week?
Having all men around when you are working has that advantage. You can probably get more done because you don't have to follow all of these ridiculous rules to avoid fake harassment charges.
No. I'm most comfortable with a mix, I wouldn't want to be all women or the only woman. Where I am now it's all women except 1 dude but he doesn't seem to mind. & I prefer at least 1 so it's not all women so it's easier to stay professional in certain ways. I assume is same for all men, based on what I've heard from men in my life who work more male dominated fields.
I go between 5 different warehouses the company i work for owns in the area. In 3 of them when i'm there for that week I am literally the only female in the warehouse.
I’ve worked in places in the past where I was the only female on staff, my coworkers were very kind about that fact, never had any problems.
In any social situations, I appreciate when genders are blending freely, it gives a more agreeable, more balanced atmosphere. In my perception.
I'm open to trying that out. At the moment, I work in a place with mostly women, in an area people consider a woman's "expertise".
I don't really care. I already work in a one gender only setting and that's in IT. Granted, my first few jobs had 2-3 women in IT. My current one has zero.
Ehh, I'm indifferent. I'm in commercial construction so it's like a 30:1 ratio. I think because of that ratio, guys end up feeling more comfortable talking a lot of chit they wouldn't normally in a different setting.
I am one of 150 females… prob only 1 or 1 men left here at my work place.
Yes, I Am tired of being treated like a sex object by female employees. I fear ridicule if I reported it to HR.
No. Life would be boring working with the same people all the time.
i wouldn't look for specifically that but i wouldn't mind it. gender doesn't matter in my professional world.
I'd probably feel tempted to turn gay
Because being surrounded by nothing besides other chicks
Would start messing with my mind
Especially since if they're more attractive hotter than me
I wouldn't mind as long as they allow 1 woman n that being me
For sure. Much more peaceful that way. re-state//background_color_rgba (0, 0, 0, 0), font_color_rgb (77, 77, 77), justifyLeft
Not really, but I almost do. There are 12 men and only 2 women.
ABSO-FUCKING-LUTELY!! Just pay me well and IDC who my coworkers are!!
I always have worked with the same gender pretty much, women rarely do what I do re-state//background_color_rgba (0, 0, 0, 0), font_color_rgb (77, 77, 77), justifyLeft
I wouldn't mind, as long as my coworkers do their work.
Will I work with skanks or will I work with dirty old men?
I supervised a manufacturing department that was all men. The work was too extreme for women.
I’ve done it before. Doesn’t matter to me.
That’s been most of my working life
Not particularly.
No. I strongly prefer to work alone.
That would be ideal.
Nope.
