My friend referred me at her company and it’s actually a role not posted on their website. It’s a small company. But I’ve interviewed with HR and the CTO and I think the calls went well. But I’ve expressed some anxiety as there’s been some lapse between the calls and I want the process to move along a little quicker. The cto was out of town and now the Hr person is out of town for the week with limited email access. I think they’re supposed to reach a decision this week and update me. I’ve already sent a couple emails to follow up (just really politely asking for updates, nothing accusatory or rude). How do I stop thinking the delay means they don’t wanna hire me?

AskWaiting during an interview process can be challenging, but remember that delays are often beyond your control. Keep in mind that companies, especially smaller ones, often face scheduling issues. It's important to focus on what you can control. Try immersing yourself in other activities like reading, exercising, or learning something new. This will help shift your focus and alleviate anxiety. You’ve done your part by following up politely. Give them the space to complete their process, and trust that you'll hear back when they’re ready. Patience can often be a key part of the hiring process.
