1 yIf it's unpaid, I assume you are on salary. If so, then you should work as many hours as it takes to get the work done. Salary has some benefits over hourly, but the free overtime is too big of a negative to make the positives worth it.
This is the reason I why I refused to take a salaried job unless it was a very good opportunity.

Balancing work speed and unpaid overtime is a common challenge. It's important to focus on improving efficiency without compromising your work-life balance. Identify areas where you can enhance your skills to work faster. Using tools or strategies that boost productivity can help too. However, consistently working unpaid overtime may lead to burnout and undervalue your work. Communication with your employer about workload expectations can also provide clarity and support. Remember, personal development and open dialogue often lead to sustainable success in your career.

1 yFuck no, and if they tell you to then report them to the EEOC

1 yAbsolutely not! That would be crazy. Your labor has value, and if you are paid by the hour... you know exactly what you're worth to your workplace. Unless you're in some sort of tight spot (you're fired if you don't get something done on time)... DON"T WORK FOR FREE!!!
00 ReplyNO do not do this. If they expect you to work piece work (paid for production) then they shouldn't pay you for time and do the same for others. That's workplace bullying if they expect you to do stuff for free because you're not as fast as others.

1 yOccasionally, it's okay to work unpaid overtime to get an important task done, but don't make it a regular thing. It's important to balance life and work.

As a special ed teacher assistant this was a major major problem in my career. I will admit I never figured out how to balance work in life come especially when my children were little. Kudos to everyone that figures this out at an early age.
1 yThe speed of which one works should not be a determining factor of if they get paid for overtime. It can although determine hourly pay. If your job consists of production and quantity then you'll be paid less than someone who's output is greater. Still that shouldn't mean you don't get overtime pay.

1 yIt depends on the law in your area, many times it’s illegal to work unpaid overtime and employers won’t allow it. It does depend on where you live so check with the bosses.

1 yno, they hired you knowing your speed. You have 8 hours to do your work. Anything more is over time. It may not be a bad idea to try to speed up a bit if you can.

1 yFuck no. Not only that, if your company is trying to force you to work unpaid over time, report it to your local DOL, Thats MASSIVE fines
10 Reply If you are hourly, you can’t as the employer must pay. They can fire you for not performing so if you don’t think you will meet their expectations in the near future, then look for a new jobs. Get faster or get going.
00 ReplyHell no. They want faster work, they can pay you more for it. Otherwise, they get what they pay for like everyone else.
00 ReplyI set goals as to what I will accomplish and work to achieve that. Sometimes it is shorter or longer.

00 ReplyUnpaid overtime is illegal.
Even if you were on salary you should still be paid overtime if you work it, I would check on your workplace legal rights in your state.
00 ReplyNo, it is illegal to work you without pay. According to Ochoa if you work more that 12 hours they have to feed you and can not work you more than 16 hours
