Moonlight (Outstanding Black Film) Pt.2

So the movie starts with main character named Chirron, a young Chirron portrayed by Ashton Sanders. The scene starts with him running from bullies through the cuts of the hood into a bando (dope house) to escape his taunters. While catching his breath the children throw stones through the window and call him names such as gay which you can clearly see he's heard that word before. Juan, a local drug dealer portrayed by my hubby Mahershala Ali stumbles upon the house. Let me tell you the scene barely had words and you felt everything now that is something Lala Land lacked. From here they build a beautiful relationship, well in my eyes beautiful. Juan becomes a father figure to Chirron as his life deteriorates after his single mother gets hooked on drugs. Which is very relevant in our communities so this gave it a very real feeling for me. In a very powerful scene Juan was handing out work on his block late at night serving feins. Angry that they were basing on his block sent him over to the car which Chirron's mother and some random man were getting high in. They argued as he proceeded to tell her to get tf off his block, she responds, rightfully so and argues about how he sells dope to people like her but is trying to father her son like he can do better than her. " Do you see the way he walks" she's walks flamboyantly imitating Chirron, which most likely is why she holds a certain disdain towards him. While I stop there for a second this movie portrayed the ghetto to a T, the dialogue, clothing, the imagery and cinematography captured the aura of a broken community, the script was very strong. There is something special about this movie that I will explain in the final part.....
