What makes it uncomfortable is not the content but the way it is presented. American TV and movies are extremely voyeuristic. I don't mind nudity or sex as long as it is presented in a natural and tasteful way. I much prefer foreign films and entertainment for this very reason. American media treats sex like it is nasty and needs to be hidden. We are a very backwards country when it comes to this aspect of entertainment.

+1 yYes it does make me uncomfortable. The reason is, if I am watching it with a friend or family member it kind of makes me feel uneasy because you don't know how open they are to it. Maybe those kinds of scenes should be left to porn?
51 Reply- +1 y
Perhaps. But we cannot keep censoring because the scenes make someone uncomfortable. Too much has already been censored for little reasoning.
An example being youtubes demonetisation.
+1 ytbh, I love the intense explicit sex scenes! I wish they were not so soft-porn and would show more... especially the actually "action" and the orgasms for both the man and girl...
Parents need to monitor their kids TV watching habits, so this should not be a problem. If a show is gonna have explicit sex or violence, dont let your kids watch.
A lot of stuff on HBO, Showtime, etc is very explicit...40 Reply
+1 yI only feel uncomfortable If I'm watching it with my parents I tend to leave the room if I know a sex scene is coming up. But if I'm by myself I really dont mind

1.5K opinions shared on Entertainment & Arts topic. It only makes me uncomfortable when there's easily triggered people around. I don't understand why some people just can't just overlook it if it annoys them. 😂 Or just don't watch it at all. Like my mother for instance. She won't look at the rating then get annoyed when a scene pops up. Like, come on! You were asking for it. I'd understand if children are around and parents didn't want them knowing about sex yet. But why tf is it taboo with adults? Adults legit already know about sex. Most normal adults have seen genitals before.
I will agree with some people though. If the scenes are unnecessary and long, then I could be annoyed. I watch shows for the plot, not sex. There's has to be a reason for the sex. It can be annoying if it doesn't add to any depth to character development or plot.39 Reply- +1 y
She wasn't asking for it. Even if she didn't see the rating why cannot she get annoyed?

![Does it make you uncomfortable to see explicit sex scenes on popular drama programs?]()
I never said she can't get annoyed. I just think it's pointless since there are ways of prevention. No annoyance needs to be felt if the proper measures are taken. And If they want to watch it anyways, then I'd rather the person not outwardly complain about it. Since it's out of their control, they should take the stoic approach. Or try and change the way shows are legally. Complaining doesn't do anything but bring uneeded negativity about. - +1 y
Okay, I understand you said she is okay to be annoyed. However it seems you're expecting her to just shove the feelings down inside because you think that's the best way so you don't have to deal with it. As it is becoming such a huge thing more often, it is not uncommon to be frustrated on trying to watch something, yet find it will have something that is harmful therefore making it hard to watch or impossible. I don't think the approach of not watching it is the best one. I think if anything she needs to express how she feels because we always get told to suck it up as women. We're constantly told too bad yet if the same thing happens to a man they all band together and fight the person who is telling them to do anything different.

▪️ I I don't expect her to shove her feelings down as in, ignore them entirely. I already said I don't mind if someone puts those feelings to good use.

▪️ Why not? Wouldn't avoiding stressful things like that would be beneficial for someone? If a person isn't attempting to bring something positive out of a negative situation, spreading more negativity is just unnecessary. And if it bothers them to them that much, cutting it out completely would be the best route in my opinion.

▪️ I think more men get told to hide their feelings than women. Women are often told that it's okay to release their feelings. But you're missing the point. I'm not arguing that women need to hide their feelings. - +1 y
Hmmm, I'm sorry, I feel I really am misunderstanding what you intended to say. You make a lot of good points. Thank you for taking the time to talk about them. I read through it and now I fear I may misunderstand something else so I won't say too much. You definitely explained a lot of the blanks, I really appreciate knowing the gaps. I guess I have a lot of thinking to do because I always felt certain ways yet you explained a new perspective.

+1 yAye it had no place in an Netflix MARVEL series. My sister was turned off by it and stopped watching any more of the Netflix ones after Defenders. A shame because Punisher season 2 and Daredevil season 3 were an improvement. The other side of the negative coin was the incessant cursing. That's why I stopped watching Magicians after season 1 even though it had an interesting story. They sound un-intelligent when they talk like sailors. I'm worried for Expanse since it moved to Amazon. They promised nudity. But why? Babylon 5 never needed that nor foul language.
In Britain it's different. Torchwood had swearing and nudity from the get go, even man on man action.10 Reply
+1 yIt's uncomfortable first thing because TV series and movies they are best experienced if watched on a big screen like a TV and if I watch such shows (ex. altered carbon from Netflix) on TV a and my parents or my siblings catch me that they're gonna think that I'm watching porn. And obviously if such scenes come the involvement we had in the show goes away as other feelings arise this is a bummer there's loads of porn, TV series doesn't need to provide me some. It's come to a situation where if see that on Netflix a show or movies is marked R or 18+ I have go to my room and watch it on a laptop or mobile.

Anonymous(45 Plus)+1 yYes, too often. For personal reasons that may not be unique. I've been single and sexless too long and sex scenes, and advertisements that push the sex button, are sometimes an unwelcome reminder of the wonders of being in love that I'm missing out on. It's not a strong reaction, but it's there.
11 ReplyI hate it and will stop watching if it shows that. Not necessary and it shows perversion. We don't need to know. I came there for a story. Not some porn crap. No matter if you're of age or adult, if you don't want that in your life and ruin your perception of what sex should be, you I would stay away from it.

Anonymous(30-35)+1 yIt doesn't make me uncomfortable but it bothers me how penises are becoming ok to show on tv but not vagina. And no I'm not talking about the giant pubic bush that people like to call female frontal. Like they literally wear a murkin over it yet we see dicks swinging in every other show these days. Euphoria for example had a scene rejected where they camera went into a vagina and showed an embryo but they had to cut it out because it was "too much." Meanwhile they have a shot of an erect penis on a girl's phone and a scene with like 60+ dicks of high school boys nd that's perfectly fine. Literally makes no sense. I actually can't think of a single show that showed an uncensored vagina that wasn't covered in a ginormous bush. Hell even children and baby's dicks are shown lol. Like in Game of Thrones they should little Sam's dick. Imagine the outrage if that baby had been a girl. That show would've been taken off the air.
10 ReplyDepends. If the episode/series has lame stories or is just eye candy & sex I’m not interested. I can get porn if that’s what I want. With tv shows there better be a decent story or I’m not wasting my time on it.
My discomfort is not about the sex per se. It’s about the value of my time and my low opinion of weak writing/storytelling10 Reply
+1 yGood question. Though it doesn't make me uncomfortable, it's just more unnecessary screen time I wish was put to focusing on the story line. If I want to watch two people making out, I'll watch porn. But when watching movies, I want to think with my brain not my dick.

+1 yI don’t watch much TV, but I hear about the explicit content from my friends (especially those who watched GoT).
I think writers put explicit sex into stories to make up for haphazard and crappy writing. You can write a crappy episode plot in a fraction of the time it takes to write something good, and if you throw a sex scene and some nudity in, people will still watch it and talk about it for ages.10 Reply
+1 yNo, it doesn't make me uncomfortable. But most of the time it isn't necessary to the story. It's usually more intimate and hotter than any porn I've ever seen.
70 Reply2.3K opinions shared on Entertainment & Arts topic. No. The reason they are becoming more sexual is because a lot of the drama has migrated from the silver screen to television.
It's easier for production companies to flog superhero and action movies so that is the main focus. A lot of other ideas are just being made into series now. There is also a dying DVD market so it's more expensive to try and change languages and stuff. That means stories with a lot of dialogue are more profitable as series.
Matt Damon told me that.10 Reply1.7K opinions shared on Entertainment & Arts topic. i have never seen explicit sex scenes on any tv show ever. simulated and a quick flash of tits maybe and most times it could be said to be essential to the storyline but given censorship laws of most, if not all countries this is not really a valid question as the only explicit sex scenes can only be seen in pornography

+1 yYes, it makes me uncomfortable if I’m watching it with someone else that’s not a romantic partner. Not if I’m watching it alone.
Gruesome violence bothers me much more than sex scenes.30 ReplyNot really, but the titilation gets annoying when you don't REALLY see anything. It should either not be shown, or if they're gonna show something like that, then I want them to go X-rated and get down and dirty.
10 ReplyIt mainly depends upon situation and story of drama. If it is demand of play, then it is OK. So far as my liking or disliking is concerned, if I am alone or watching with hubby, such explicit scenes don't stir uneasiness.
10 ReplyIt made me uncomfortable to watch the orgy in sausage party in the same room as my parents but the scenes themselves are not that big a deal sex is a part of life and unfortunately so is violence neither faze me on TV

+1 yNot uncomfortable no.
I see it from the pure reality of it.
Someone... as a career, possibly someone's husband or wife just stripped naked in front if a room full of movie crew workers, kissed, touched, made out with someone who wasn't their mate and had their intimate parts recorded forever for anyone to see.
I do not respect most actors abd never would have dated one.

- +1 y
Nope. Oh well. If hardcore porn is a 10 and a Disney film is a 1 how high on the scale are the tv shows you're talking about?
I'm just annoyed by unnecessarily long or completely unecessary sex scenes. It tells me the writers were too dumb or lazy to write anything else to fill the time.

+1 yIf I'm watching by myself, I find it a distraction to the show but it doesn't make me uncomfortable. If I happen to be watching TV where there's any other person in the room, it makes me uncomfortable. It's like you're in somebody else's living room and they just randomly pop in a porn video. Yeah that's going to make me uncomfortable.
10 ReplyYes.
Why should they need to add irrelevant sex scenes even if the full story of the drama will still be beautiful without it? For popularity? They should focus more on the story itself..
Main reason is..
I like to watch dramas on my phone outside, its unconfortable when my co-passengers on train and bus sees it.

+1 yOnly uncomfortable around family. However i think their important in story telling. Its hard to realise that a couple is really a couple in a show if they never ever have sex in the show ever. Does it have to be as revealing as say GOT. No, but GOT is a premium show to watch so they can do that and most people will not complain.

+1 yNot at all! TV series such as Spartacus, Vikings, GoT (early seasons), Satisfaction (Australian TV series) had some explicit sex scenes that were part of the series themes.

Anonymous(30-35)+1 yThe only time I've been uncomfortable was when I was watching a movie with a sex scene at my girlfriends house when I was in HS and her parents were on the couch to our right and we were laying on the floor with a blanket over us and my legs bent up and my girlfriend decided to start giving me a handjob during that scene. Now, that was uncomfortable.
I will say most sex scenes in tv shows or movies tend to feel out of place and not necessary so I am more annoyed than anything.00 Reply
