I know this is plot armor for the protagonist, but the bad guy always hesitates, or uses a strike that isn't fatal when one us clearly possible. Arrow was really good. But how many times has a bad guy gotten the drop on one of them, and stands still pointing the gun at them for a solid second or two before being killed? John Wick Parabellum. I just turned it on, never seen the full movie. John Wick is sword fighting a Japanese who said "If I didn't have to kill you, you'd be my pal" who later in the fight is completely behind John Wick, hitting him a few times with the handle of his katana instead of spinning it around and stabbing through him. Or, even, hitting John Wick, spinning him around disoriented, not finishing him. I can't tell you how many villains had an intent to kill the protagonist, has a blade at their throat, and not killing them. I know it's Hollywood, but I hate it.
Because in most stories the bad guy loses. You said it, plot armor. I chuckle imagining me being the villain. I captured the good guy and instead of telling them of my whole lifestory and my plans I would just shoot them in the head without the word and give the gun to a henchman. 'Get rid of this mess.'

Kingsman notes this trope and subverts it. I won't say when as spoilers.
