The global climate and agricultural/water supply disaster and pending world war aren't going to just resolve easily no matter what mind games are played though.

Fact is if we want to survive without a huge death toll we're going to need to get our asses in gear on massive global geoengineering projects and ecological balancing efforts. Unfortunately the chances of doing so in the middle of a pandemic and a global mexican standoff involving nukes is pretty low.
