Do you believe MARVEL or DC had ruined the essence of going to the movies like old times?

And that started like maybe 13 years ago? I was talking to my brotehr in law who loves movies and he is a bit of connoisseur since he was a little boy. We were watching the other day one of the "Indiana Jones" movies and we were talking about today`s movies that they are not made the way movies were made like maybe 20 years ago. He said that today with the excessive use of CGI movies really had lost the essence of what a movie is about so he told me and that was his opinion he quoted "MARVEL ruined the movies, cause now everything is Marvel here Marvel there, Marvel spin-offs sequels, in one movie the character is dead but then it comes anotehr Marvel movie and now it is alive". He gave me an example that how come and actor like Michael Douglas accepted to act in Ant Man, but he understands that acting is a job so probably he needed to earn a salary. Then my brother in law continued saying that by the use of CGI and actor does not even have to act most of the time as by using CGI and green screen behind, the effort is minimal of what they do, unlike old times.

For example now if a movie is set for example is Tahiti and the production do not want to travel to Tahiti, they simply use CGI a green screen, put the actor on a set and voila!! you are in Tahiti without even traveling, no effort from the actor, nothing. Old times the production had to travel to the place and movies look more realistic that they look now. Now many movies look fake when they use too much CGI, they dont use much props anymore, they dont build real sets either, or manufacture monsters, if they can use a CGI to create all of that, the movie studio will use it.

I mean how many Marvel and DC movies people have to endure, like 100 more as they are all based in comics and there are phases and phases and more phases.

I agree with my brother in law. I miss old movies done the old way, the real action, drama, the real place to film a movie, something like John Wick, Mission Impossible, lets say movies like that I do miss. Hollywood need to go back to his roots or at least to film movies like that.

I happened to be an Independent upcoming Filmmaker that specializes in Special Effects & Visual effects plus Comic book buff as a TV nerd that grew up on Marvel's and DC. To answer your question, Marvel and DC did not ruined the essence of movies because we do have technology nowadays to bring to life but at the same time they're some mistakes in some films today plus many films with actors can be to flashy whereas the filmmakers did not do well on the film so you need both the old classic and the new generations to understand what's going on films. Like for example Richard Donner Superman II Director's Cut that was released 2006 and it's the clean up version to the Superman II 1981 film and if you watch both movies carefully, you will see a big difference on why they had to cleanup plus it restore Richard Donner version that was not released back 1981 because he was fired in the beginning of the production and the producers hired Director Richard Nestor. Now if you watch Zack Synder's Man of Steel 2013, the CGI was great it captures the fine line on what Comic book films are supposed to be and it answers a lot of questions like what Superman would have been in this modern day but the great news is that the younger generation love Richard Donner Superman II Director's Cut and Christopher Reeves is still considered the Best Superman of all times.

If you think CGI looks fake then go have a look at older movies and how stupid and embarrassing creatures and matte paintings look. I'm sick and tired of people dumping on VFX having no idea what artists go through to bring this magic to the big screen! Marvel and DC didn't ruin anything related to the cinema experience. We literally had a movie about fighter jets last year becoming the highest grossing film of the year and nominated for multiple awards including VFX. Avengers Endgame is one of the highest grossing films of all time and was revolutionary in terms of VFX. I guess the production should apologise that they didn't fly into space to film everything practically without VFX.
So much for your fake CGI". You think that the effort for VFX is minimal while in reality artists work overtime almost every day for a shitty payment and in extreme cases some break down on their desks crying. All this to bring some entertainment to people who don't appreciate the effort.

Neither of those on their own have ruined movies as a whole. The MCU has done significantly more damage to the genre, and Disney as a company has done more damage to movies than Warner could dream of. The DCU never really got off the ground despite the fact they should've had a much easier time with it.

SOwhat had ruined people to like movies like old times, too much excessive CGI or actors hardly act as many thibngs (not all) are done by CGI for their scenes. They dont use old props like many years gao, now actors follow a tennis ball in order to know where a monster is just an example.

Whether or not a movie is good depends on he script. Spending millions on special effects makes a good visual spectacle but not a great movie. Marvel had some good scripts. Winter Soldier was a good spy movie that just happened to have super heroes in it.

Putting it short, the reasons Hollywood is dying (at least in Cinemas) are:

1. Torrenting/Digital Copies available for free at home.
2. OTT Platforms like Netflix.
3. Wokeism in films.
4. Distasteful, recycled plots (Marvel)
5. Lack of movie "stars" like Stallone or Arnold.
6. "Quotas" for how a movie should be made.
7. Only promoting certain kinds of movies.
8. Lack of connect with the audience.

Western History, Culture, Slapstick Comedies, Smaller in scale films with good plots. Stuff like that.
