Hi, it's me: I'm that adult that still plays video games, and probably would publicly if I had a portable console.
No, that's not childish; that's called s/he is an adult and can do whatever they want as long as they're not endangering, bothering, or affecting other peoples lives in a negative manner. Heck, I'd probably ask what game they're playing if I saw them doing that, lol.
It depends on the situation. If they're just doing it for maybe an hour or two every so often or, if they're just doing it to kill time on a long car, bus, train or plane ride, I have no problems with that. But, if they spend nearly all their waking hours playing one and are doing so just to score more and more points, that's more like being a kid!
I used to work with a married guy who was in his mid 60's, at the time and he would start yakking with others about what level he was on and how many points he had and how, tonight, he's gonna get to the next level, or whatever! I'd go home from work and edit music, work on various recording projects, write, clean up a few things, etc.. I didn't even get the chance to read and I tried to a lot myself about 90:00 a day for that!
Nope, plenty of adults spend most of their free time every day gaming. Even I (who spends time dawing, composing, writing, researching, coding, modeling, watching anime and sci-fi, etc). still spend most of my day playing video games.
@TheSpaceGnome Soooo, that's not being childish?
Correct, its not being childish.
@TheSpaceGnome Yes, it is!
@FunkyMonkee Nope.
Thinking that games are childish, is childish though.
@TheSpaceGnome Right, Sparky!! Whatever!!
Logically, video games are books, tv, movies, music, games, puzzles, sports, adventures, social venues, and creative outlets all rolled into one. They are the superior form of entertainment. So what you are really saying is prioritizing entertainment is childish, which is stupid, because the reward of enjoyment is the only valid reason to do anything at all. Its why we work, why we eat, drink, sleep, learn, etc, the end goal is to increase the time and quality of enjoyment, and games are exceptional at that, do calling them childish, as if enjoyment is not valuable to adults, is a completely absurd, infantile way to think.
so* not "do"
@TheSpaceGnome Sure they are! No, Sparky, YOU said that! What I said was that spending all day, every day, playing that shit is childish, like you haven't a SINGLE care or responsibility in the world! Just like kids! Entertainment usually teaches you things. Video games only teach you how to score more points! And, once you've got all those points, what have you got? NOTHING!!
But, Mr. Employer, I'm a hard worker! I scored 500,000 points on Donkey Kong in just one day!
So what, kid!! NEXT!!
1. No, I said "most of the day", not "all day", and mentioned the other things I do throughout the day, and you called that childish. but it's not. Now you are just trying to backtrack to make yourself sound less dumb.
2. Retirement plans are built around the idea of limiting responsibilities as much as possible, to get them as close to zero as possible. Are you going to try to tell me that only children should care about retirement? π and before you say "thats for old people who can't do anything anymore", I'm retiring young, because its the smart thing to do.
3. Experience points are generally considered a lazy form of game development, meant to stretch out a game's playtime length artificially or to make games easier. Good games are built around skill and creativity and compelling events or situations, not grinding or hand holding. Also Donkey Kong doesn't have XP. π Secondly, the point of playing a game is not suffering through it to be rewarded at the end with something useful or good, you're thinking of a boring job, not a game π
The game experience itself IS the reward, what you get is enjoyment. If you cannot enjoy something just for the sake of fun, you've removed the point of living. I work to get paid to be rewarded with games and other luxuries. Such is the point of work.
Actually technically I said "most of their free time" So you were even more offbase than I recalled without double checking lol. Free time is time not spent on responsibilities.
No.
Between the age rating systems/mature content, the level of skill needed, the pro gaming tournaments, and the now absurd price tags on games, subscriptions, consoles, and gaming PCs, most gamers today are adults.
Most people I bump into online while in multiplayer, range from late teens to late 40s, children are a rare occurance. I think the only exception is nintendo systems, which tends to have more kids than the other platforms because nintendo is cheap when it comes to hardware, and their games are still physical copies and cheap, but even then lots of adults still play on the switch and 3DS/2DS because a lot of those games are fun.
Some people escape into books, some into tabletop games, some to anime, etc.. The human mind is prone to fantasy. The medium by which it gets there is irrelevant. And no subjective interest should be considered childish. Being an adult is about responsibility, you donβt lose that just because you like video games, cartoons, or stuffed animals.. I love playing video games.. I mean, I don't have much time for this nowadays because of my responsibilities, but I return to my gaming session every chance I get.

No, that would be kind of an old-school idea.
I was walking with my Dad a while back and we came upon a couple guys probably in their mid-late 20's playing with a remote-control car. My Dad said "Looks like Dad is enjoying that more than the kids". I felt like telling him (but didn't) "I don't think they have any kids".
NOOOOO! 🤦🏽ββοΈ. If playing games is wrong I don't want to be right. 🥸🤷🏽ββοΈ
video games don't scream childish.
But I know a lot of grown-ups that exude childish. it doesn't matter what's keeping their attention.
Nope as I do it and usually during my lunch or in the evenings when I want to relax and not have to think, it's a stress reliever. Now if they were supposed to be working but playing a game then that's a totally different scenario.
no but i would think he probably spends a lot of time on it and has no time for real life connections. same with people who keep using their phones. if i'm on a date and the person keep using his phone i would be pissed
No it is fairly normal to play video games.. what I find more childish is when I see people taking selfies and videos in public..
Depending on the gaming set up and game itself, I may ask if he wants to hit me up some time to play and give out my discord or something. Gaming is a hobby. It's not just for kids lmao
Nope video games are for everyone not just kids
It's a great way to just relax the mind at the end of a long day.
No harm in doing that !!!
?
No.
Plenty of grown men play video games.
Absolutely not.
I would see them as someone who is enjoying something they like
Of course not. Let them do them. None of my business.
video games can extend the lifespan of the elderly
Some video games I have played are clearly not for children.
Nope. I intend to have fun till I'm 100. Alas once I hit that age...
Not at all... playing games is good for the soul, and the brain.
if they're 50 its a little weird but if they're 30 that's very normal so why would i think they cringy
No, video games have been around for a long time. They are pretty mainstream at this point.
Do not judge a person by their looks, what do you think when Elon Musk is playing game infront of you.
No, Not really but an olderrrrr man interacting online with games with children.
Yeah along with selfies, emojis and sites for teenagers like Snapchat or tiktok
