I just found out I've been hearing a song wrong for my entire life. On a scale of 1-10, how much of an idiot am I?

The song is Africa by Toto. I always thought he was saying "I've touched the rains down in Africa".

But it is actually "I bless the rains down in Africa".

Just realized.

I used to sing "GO GO JASON water falls". AND what it REALLY says: "DON'T go CHASING water falls".
I used to say "Por todo el FLARO". AND what it REALLY says: "Por todo el CIELO"

if it weren't for google lyrics, I would still be singing the wrong words today lol

but they're so old I really don't ever listen to them anymore but those are just 2 of the ones that stuck with me and I was in shock when I realized many years later that I was singing wrong lol

I don't think it's idiot behavior, just it's what we thought we heard.
there's many more I sang wrong but these 2 are just the ones I can remember the most being shocked about because I couldn't believe I was wrong lol

I also have a hard time understanding lyrics. I read somewhere that some people's brains are wired to hear the music more and other people's brains are wired to hear the singing more. So I don't think I'm an idiot anymore. And I'm assuming this is the case for you.

Not much of an idiot. It amazes me that most people don’t listen carefully to the words of a song. Me, I hear a song and I search for the lyrics… I want to make sure I am singing it correctly. And the correct words almost always blows people’s minds. So really your not an idiot at all. Check out lyrics from now on… you’ll be amazed.
