What do you think people's reactions were like when they went to see 'The Wizard of Oz' first premiered back in 1939?

If you yourself was existent in 1939 and went to see the movie come out, what you think the reception and experience for those who attended would be like to witness 84 years ago?

Well, according to dad, who was about 15 at the time, people were amazed when they first saw the colour bit!
According to what I just heard about a month ago, it kinda flopped upon initial release but picked up steam.
Also, dad always told us it came out in `36. Then, about 10 years ago, I started hearing it was from `37. Next thing I know, it's from `38! Now, it's from `39! The older I get, the younger it gets!!
As far as I know, Judy was 15 when she did it but, she was born in `22! Something ain't right!!

It came out in 1939 and Judy garland was about 16 or 17 when she filmed the movie
