I have to listen to a lot of children’s songs and the one I cannot stand but my baby loves is kiss the girl. The original where the fish go yahhh yahhh yah lol, she has me sing it on repeat sometimes.

Dignity by deacon Blue. It's a song about an old homeless guy who collects cans so he can buy an ocean-going yacht and call it dignity.

Now why do I hate it? Because there's no dignity in picking up cans, he's never going to afford a rubber dinghy let alone a yacht that can sail the world. The guys in rags and starving so I think he's got other priorities first. And why can't he just take a proper job? It's a song designed to make you take shitty low paid jobs because it'll give you dignity. It's a song designed to keep people down

Top after "Deguello", Crazy Train or any other Ozzy solo song, Total Eclipse Of The Heart, Sunglasses At Night, The Edge Of 17, Bette Davis Eyes, There's Got To Be A Morning After. nearly anything Billy Joel ever did, nearly anything The Dreadful Great ever did. anything U2 or REM ever did, That's What Friends Are For... if I was listening to radio, these days, I could pick out hundreds of songs I hate! That's why I never listen to radio! They almost NEVER play any of the GOOD stuff and play the living fuck out of the garbage!!

@AngryCarl I was with my church youth group and we invited another church youth group associated with us over for a sleep over. Somebody heard that nobody knew what that song was about so, they decided to try to decipher it by playing it over and over again while trying to figure it out! OF COURSE, because it was church youth group, EVERYTHING about that song HAD to have a religious bent to it whether Don McLean intended it or not!! These were the days when, "Jesus Christ Superstar" was still big, as was, "Godspell", a band called, Smoke Rise put out another double concept album about religion called, "Virgin" and The Electric Prunes just strangulated their career with their religion-based album, "Fugue". (They didn't want to do it but their manager and/or producer insisted.)

@AngryCarl I know! I was only in the group to have something to do, so to speak. We'd meet every afternoon on the way home from school and sit and talk for about 2 hours and then I'd go home. We had one sleep-over at their church and they came to one at our church.
At that point, I was already thinking religion was bullshit.

I have no idea what it is called but there is this absolutely depressing accordeon song my neighbor practises from time to time. The melody is shit, the progression is shit, structure of the song in general is shit, pacing is shit. It just sounds absolutely awful and even though she makes an occational mistake I know its not because its a skill issue. There are other way more uplifting songs she plays that sound just fine.
